Yes, amazing, if true. A program in shambles.

Shambles? Hardly. If it were in shambles tons of players would be leaving and we wouldn't have anyone in the running for the head coaching job.
This is truly getting a bit stupid though, I agree.

I don't think it is shambles either, but I wouldn't base any opinion on the fact no players have left, because number one, what options do most, if not all of them have at this time of year. They are taking a wait and see approach, whihc they should. They appear to have a good nucleus of returning players, so why not stay put.

The only concern I would have is why have the top two choices of msu said NO. Is there something out there they know that the public doesn't yet? PURE speculation on my part, I haven't heard a thing besides the rumors that have been out there all along about an assistant coach and more players.

At this point, does anyone give any credence to the idea of standing pat until after Thanksgiving? Any hire right now would beg the question of time to hire staff and install a system before September. That's going to be mighty tough. Plus, at this late date, you're REALLY screwing another program. Why not just let it go until Thanksgiving?

Maybe Super....If they can announce by Monday, the right coach can probably pull it together....even better over the week end.

probably didn't like being sloppy second choice.

He was impressive....the two remaining ...aren't

Lennon is impressive? A guy with a history of cold feet in regard to applying for Sky jobs is impressive? Hardly. Sounds to me he's just trying to stiff his current school for more $$.

If you read his comments on why he passed the first time it makes snese to me. The fact Van Diest said NO Thanks first, followed almost immediately by Lennon makes me wonder if there isn't a pretty valid reason. If so, how can you find fault with them. If I am msu Admin, I want a guy who is coming with his eyes wide open and still wants to take on the job. They should be happy both these guys took a pass.

You obviously know nothing about Dale Lennon. Have a read about his coaching history, it'll surprise you. And I hardly think he has cold feet about coaching in the Big Sky just because he turned down a glorious job at Sac. St.

Check the facts, Lennon was probably the top candidate in the pack, including Van Diest.

I have maintained all along that MVD was the popular choice, but Lennon may be the best choice. I still have not seen anything official that says Lennon has pssed on the msu position. Anyone?

I just saw another thread quoting a Bozo newspaper article stating that Lennon had withdrawn. That's the closest to "official" that I've seen.

You are correct SH. Here it is.

MSU football update: Lennon pulls out; press conference Monday

By JEFF WELSCH Chronicle Sports Editor

Montana State will announce its new football coach at 11 a.m. Monday at the Stadium Club, athletic director Peter Fields said Saturday, and the list now is down to two.

North Dakota coach Dale Lennon, one of the four finalists to succeed Mike Kramer, confirmed Saturday afternoon that he plans to stay in Grand Forks. His decision follows a similar direction taken by Carroll College's Mike Van Diest, who pulled out Thursday night.

That leaves Drake head coach Rob Ash and Duke assistant coach Larry Kerr as finalists to become MSU's 31st head coach.

North Dakota football publicist Jayson Hajdu confirmed Lennon's decision Saturday afternoon. Later Saturday, Lennon told Grand Forks Herald reporter Wayne Nelson that he had decided to remain a Fighting Sioux.

Earlier Saturday, MSU athletic director Peter Fields declined to comment on Internet message board rumors of Lennon's decision before revealing the scheduling of the press conference.

"We're still looking at the candidates we brought in - minus Van Diest," Fields said.

If one more coaching candidate were to withdraw, I wonder if The Last Man Standing would get the job through default. The cats may make NCAA history if that were to happen.

I guess so, if he really wants the job.

Moot point now I guess. Looks like Ash is going to take on the job.
