And the new recruits are...

You have at least one and possibly two, paper work needs to be processed. Recruits are not allowed to sign on a campus visit. Must go home and sign paper work mail it in.

People need to be patient. Recruits are still making visits as of yesterday (yes even on Sunday). I would prefer the coaches take their time getting the right players who will fit in, than worrying about making an announcement to placate impatient fans who think everything should be done on day 1 of the signing period. :twocents:

*hoping for anthony johnson*

Here is a little info on Anthony Johnson. He would be a great get for the Griz as he is very athletic, has nice size, can score, penetrate, and defend. I believe Washington State is trying to get him to walkon, but his being married works to the Griz advantage.

Anthony Johnson averaged 25 points per game in the regular season. Many Division I schools are after his services.

Since he graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma in 2005, it's been a relatively long road for Anthony Johnson. But three years later, it appears the quick 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard will be on his way to college basketball's highest level. Johnson just finished up a two-year career at Yakima Valley Community College in grand style and should have some nice four-year options to choose from in the upcoming weeks.

"Anthony had about as great a season as anybody could really have," said Yakima Valley head coach Ray Funk. "He was East Region MVP which tells you about the regular season he had and then he played on the championship team and won tourney MVP as well. It doesn't get much better than that."

On the year, Johnson averaged almost 25 points a contest during the regular season and really caught fire in the NWAACC Tournament. After opening with efforts of 25 and 33 points, he exploded for 38 points against Umpqua in the semifinals. After he posted 29 points against Spokane in the championship game, there was no doubt who the best player in the league was.

"He's a scorer," Funk said. "He can get to the basket and the free throw line, but he's also got a canny mid-range pull-up shot that you don't see much anymore. And the knock on him all year was that he had no three-point shot, but he was 7-for-14 from three in the (NWAACC) tournament. He's really quick, long-armed, and a great on-the-ball defender too."

He had scoring efforts of 38, 33, 29, and 25 points in the league tournament. He was named tournament MVP for his efforts.

Over the course of the season, Johnson saw his recruitment steadily rise and now a number of schools all throughout the Pacific Northwest are looking at taking the next step.

"Anthony is getting looked at by a lot of Division I schools right now," Funk said. "Montana is coming in to see him tomorrow and Eastern Washington and Portland State have been recruiting him and would like him to visit. Idaho and Weber State also came to see him play this year and I've talked to one of the Boise State coaches about him."

Funk also noted that many of the schools in the Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference have been recruiting Johnson all season long. The high-scoring guard is considering all options and is essentially looking at taking as many official visits as he can before making an educated choice.

"I think he's basically looking for that best fit," Funk said. "It's everything from academics to the level of play to the playing time situation to what his role would be on the team to the chance to get to the (NCAA) Tournament. He's married, so he's got his wife to consider as well."

We can finally put some of this to an end! I am extremely excited about Tinks getting his kids in here to play some bball.

M-Bishu- Washington
Johnson- Washington
Ward- Washington
Stockton-Washington
Spot to fill???

I like the looks of this class. Johnson will help immediately, M-Bishu may be able to contribute. I think the other two are potential immediate contributors, but one will probably red-shirt. This team is coming together!!! Nice job Wayne!

What about the big-man situation? Hasquet (Sr.), Sharp (Sr.), Qvale (So.), Selvig (Fr.) . . .

Qvale and Selvig at center?
Hasquet and Sharp at PF?

Seems a little thin. Is Selvig even a C or PF or more of a SF?

Selvig will start off at the 4 and 5 but is probably better suited for the 3 and 4.

Not sure how it seems thin?? ....

Hasquet- Fav. to win BSC MVP and is a tw time team MVP

Sharp- was one of the top reserves in the conference

Qvale- if he wasn't injured would have led the BSC in Blocks as a True Frosh

Selvig - Was the highest rated recruit the Griz have signed and will be coming off a reshirt year

We seem very strong at just about every position. We go two-deep almost everywhere.

pg: CET/Taylor
SG: Staudacher/Johnson
SF: McGillis/Selvig
PF:Hasquet/Sharp
C: Qvale...Ward?

Definitely a make or break year for tinks.

DAMN, my bad day at work has gone to EXCELLENT over this lunch break. :thumb: This recruiting class certainly is filling the voids we had this past year. I still hope we can add one more rebounding inside scoring paint player.

We have been week in athleticism, defense, and penetrating recently. All of which, I am sure the returnees are working on, but what a job by the coaches to get all these in recruiting. Better yet, many freshman, combined with a true scoring guard that penetrates. :thumb: I am also pumped that we have true 6'7" sf in this class. I hear Ward is also very capable playing the 3.

I just pray all this comes together fast on the court this year. Imagine how much better our perimeter defense can be, and how much better our offense will be with another weapon to worry about. Penetrating will surely open the court up for Staudacher, Hasquet, Taylor, and McGillis huge. We will have enough weapons to make scoring in the paint much easier for the likes of Hasquet, Sharp, Qvale, and Selvig.

The eligibility of Selvig, Taylor, and McGillis alone would have been huge for this year. I know Johnson will definitely be part of an 8 man rotation. Depending on how the offseason plays out, 1 or 2 of the freshman will play. My hope is all the freshman redshirt though. I honestly think Ward or Moikbu (sp) will be play due to their versatility and us not being deep at 3 beyond McGillis.

I am so excited on these guys coming into the fold. When is the 1st game? :thumb: :beer2: GO GRIZ!!!! BSC championship and NCAA tourney, here we come. :thumb:

Move Selvig to PF, Move Sharp to center/PF put Ward as 11th man or redshirt, and plug in your third JC player (not signed) into one of the guard position.

Ward is the gem of this recruiting class, although he may need a little seasoning. Ward would play for most big Sky teams next year, but is burried a little bit with the Griz depth.

We also got a kid from Rainier Beach, California. Thats the only thing I know about him. Griz player at my house last evening told me this, but didn't know his name either. I'm sure one of you has details.
