BILLINGS — The Great Falls Cowboys got off to a good start Monday morning at the All-American Professional Basketball League summer league, defeating the Butte Bandits 98-89.

Former UM-Western star Matt Luedtke scored 15 points for the Cowboys, sinking 4-of-8 from 3-point range.

She shared team scoring honors with former Idaho star Rashaad Powell.

"We were up 22 at one point," said Cowboys coach Kermit Young. "We had five guys in double figures, spread the scoring around pretty well."

Point guard Sam Riddle, a former Montana and UM-Western player, had eight assists.
The Bandits were led by 6-11 center Eric Walton with 19 points and 16 rebounds.

All 10 AAPBL teams are playing 12 games in 10 days at MSU-Billings. The Cowboys play at 12:30 this afternoon against Hutchinson, Kan.

The summer league is designed to give experience to prospective players, some of whom will be signed to contracts and brought back to training camp in October.

The AAPBL begins play in Novemeber. The Cowboys will play their home games at Four Seasons Arena.

Anybody have any information on the guys with Montana ties who are trying out for the league? Do they have a website?

from what I recognized of the Montana people they are: Matt Luedtke (Western) Luke Kunkel (Rocky) Lee Larson (Belt?) Sam Riddle (Western) and Richard Dionne (Poplar-DII in Nebraska) I've seen all of them play, and would give Luedtke and Dionne the best chance at making the Great Falls team.
