All American DT Will Sutton - Griz connection

I've been a big fan of ASU's consensus all-american DT Will Sutton, who personally destroyed Navy in the recent bowl game in SF. What I didn't know before a little research is that his dad is Micky Sutton, former Griz cornerback and return man in '81-'82 with five years in the NFL, mostly with the Rams. Micky was 5'8", 165 lb and lightning fast. Will is 6'1", 271 with enormous guns and very quick. He's a junior and just announced he will pass on the draft and return to the Sun Devils for 2013.

mickey sutton was my ra in beautiful miller hall... the bass player from pearl jam lurked around there as well.

am i officially a greenie now?

Let me add another connection. About 30 years ago, I was standing in the field house lobby during a January basketball game when I was introduced to two potential Juco recruites - one was Mickey Sutton (I forget the name of the other guy but he turned out to be a fine player also).

Guess who the guy was who was recruiting them - one of Don Read's young assistants - a guy by the name of Robin Pflugrad. And then Mickey's son ends up playing at ASU with Robin's son. Small world out there.

There was much rejoicing in ASU-land yesterday when Sutton announced he was coming back.
With Sutton back, the Devils bear watching in 2013. He is really fun to watch. Graham seems to be a great hire in spite of his job-hopping; not a hard act to follow after Erickson. WS is smallish for the NFL; I suspect he figures another year at ASU, injury free, and adding 10-15 lb, will move him up the draft list significantly. His upper body strength and mobility is already ++.

Graham has been a pleasant surprise. Then again, I HATED the Erickson hire with every fiber of my being, so ANYTHING would be a step up.

Can we delete this thread? Or at least move it? The last thing I want to read on a forum about Griz football is some OUT OF STATE local football talk, that's not why I'm here.

Then don't read it.

See, that wasn't so hard. Even for an idiot like yourself.

Okay this is just wee bit confusing. If Mickey Sutton played here in 81-82, and Don Read didn't get here until 1986..he was Portland State in 81-85 I assume Pflugrad (where he was an assistant then) was in our field house recruiting Sutton for Portland State?

I remember watching Sutton at Dorn as a kid... I have a Griz Paw towel I mailed him and got his autograph, along with several other players, including Larry K... They all returned the towel real fast... For a kid, that was Badass :thumb:
