Ah Yat vs. Fonoti

Here's a link to a cut-down version of the complete game between Kamehameha (Keali'i Ah Yat, Senior QB) and Kahuku (Malae Fonoti, Junior RB) in 2022. Kahuku won 49-0.

Interesting watching this, for a couple of reasons:

1. Keali'i generally had very little time to throw, as Kahuku is a power in Hawaiian high school football and was applying relentless pressure, so he ended up trying to do too much, throwing 2 picks. He used that back-door escape route (that we've already seen a few times) many times, so it looks like his favorite get-out-of-jail move.

2. Malae looked like the second option at RB as a junior, but still looked like a load to tackle.

I don’t love that backdoor escape route. Hope he breaks that habit for a go to move. Against good teams he is going to lose a lot of yards. Worked in high school, but not at the current level he is playing.

Lol. It’s worked literally every time he used it this year. I love it. It’s what Aaron Rodgers and Tony Romo did better than anyone and it can absolutely burn defenses. It takes balls to do it and most defenses at this level rarely see it. I think he will kill teams with it.

He actually did get taken down for a huge loss after it was on film. It will still be his go to but don’t be surprised if it burns him on occasion. It will also allow him to extend some plays and make a huge play on occasion.

Really our line needs to continue to improve enough to minimize pressure and hold a pocket for him to step up
Into consistently.

I watched the Kahuku vs Kamehameha game on YouTube and I was impressed by the Red Raiders’ dominance. They shut out the Warriors 49-0 and showed why they are one of the best teams in Hawaii.

The key factor was their defense, which harassed Keali’i Ah Yat all night long. He had no time to throw and made some costly mistakes. He threw two interceptions and fumbled once. He also tried to escape the pressure by rolling out to his left, but Kahuku was ready for that. They contained him and forced him to throw on the run, which affected his accuracy.

On the other hand, Malae Fonoti was a beast for Kahuku. He ran hard and broke tackles with ease. He scored three touchdowns and averaged over 10 yards per carry. He was the second option behind Clyde Taulapapa, who also had a great game. The Red Raiders’ running game was unstoppable and they controlled the clock.

This game showed the gap between Kahuku and Kamehameha. Kahuku is a powerhouse and Kamehameha is still rebuilding. I hope they can improve and challenge Kahuku in the future.

Did you actually watch the games? Against good teams it was not effective.

I wonder how those teams would fare against one of the 2,478 Pauldings.

Unsure. I do have limited real world info to inform me on this, but I know for sure that that is a LOT of effing Pauldings.
