Adrian Beltre Rumored To.......

I would agree, except that I think Buster Olney does a pretty fair job of keeping everyone up to date.

Olney is good but he just doesn't have the access to the MLB inner circle or the industry credibility that Gammons has. I mean, Gammons in the MLB Hall of Fame for goodness sake. Olney has good access to the Yankees due to his book "Last Night of the Yankee Dynasty", the Red Sox due to working for ESPN and handful of other teams that he has established relationships with. Another 20 years of this and maybe he'll be where Gammons is today.

I'm sure Gammons gets fed some BS now and then but a GM has to be careful with him. Let's face it - a GM can feed a dweeb like Rosenthall shovels full of shit and Rostenthall has no option but to eat it, smile and ask for another. Gammons can say "try to feed me shit again and your team won't see baseball tonight for three months".

Along that line, the Padres are actively denying that they have even discussed Beltre with the M's. The Mariners are actively denying interest in Soriano, saying that there was one exploratory phone call but that the asking price was far too high (i.e. Jones and Clement). Gammons tends to sniff through at least some of the posturing.

Shrug. A Beltre trade would be nice - he really needs to get back to the NL - but it's far more likely that something is done in the off season. To Philly for Abreu, perhaps?

Do we really need Abreu though? I'd like to see Zito or Schmidt (or both!) wearing Ms jerserys next year.

Abreu in Left and Ibanez at DH would add some serious left handed punch and OBP to the club. A Beltre for Abreu trade is the exact kind of trade that happens in the off season - one big, bloated contract for another big, bloated contract. The net cost to the M's for Abreu would only be $3 million or so over Beltre. With an estimated $23 million coming off the books this off season, that still leaves a lot of $$$ for pitching.

I want Matsuzaka in the worse way, followed by Zito as a distant second. I want no part of Schmidt - he's old, hurt a lot and while he is effective in the NL West, that's the only division in baseball that worse than the AL West. No way I want that dude weighing down the rotation for the next four years.

But hey, how about that game against the Sox today? It had a little bit of everything, it was fun to watch!

Congrats!!! Mariners. First in-the-park home run in the seven years of SAFCO. Couldn't happen against a better opponent.

Go Yankees!!!

Whenever they get around to it, that is.

On 950 am the Gas man is speculating about a Beltre for Arod trade. Didn't get a chance to listening long enough to tell if there was some reason for the speculation or if it was just idle talk.
