Bobcats' Morrison fined $25,000 for obscene gesture

April 10, 2007

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Charlotte Bobcats forward Adam Morrison was fined $25,000 by the NBA on Tuesday for making an obscene gesture to fans during a game in Miami.

Morrison made the gesture while sitting on the bench late in overtime during Charlotte's 111-103 win over the Heat on Sunday. Morrison did not play in the game because of a sprained knee, the first game he missed this season.

Morrison, the No. 3 overall pick in last year's draft, is averaging 11.9 points and is shooting 38 percent from the field this season.

Obscene gestures and low shooting percentage?

How Iverson of him.

Speaking of obscene gestures, did anyone else happen to catch Jon Bon Jovi giving the refs the double bird last Monday night on ESPN's arena league telecast?

I watched the final couple minutes of the game and JBJ apparently didn't care for the refs interpretation of a fumble recovered for a TD by the Philadelphia Soul's opponent. JBJ owns the Soul and the camera was squarely on him when he "expressed" his displeasure with the call.

Good stuff...

So Bon Jovi is the Arena League's version of Mark Cuban. Since hardly anyone watches the AFL (I wish it were otherwise), people won't even notice the "quiet" sanctions they give him as an owner. He's not a prominent player in a prominent league as Morrison is. Given what just happened in the NFL, David Stern will likely overreact to get some pub back. Look for a huge suspension and fine for Morrison.
