AA High School Football tonight (merged topic)

Used to.be Sentinel could blow off the football ineptitudness by having students graduate early with multiple college credits and ap courses. This year sombody forgot to sign a form, so no many how many college credit courses you take you get no college credit. And they still can't win a city championship. Hellgate couldn't put a varsity team together but they might still be ahead of the Missoula flagship. Incompetence reigns supreme on south and Bancroft.

Turner back in for glacier, scores on a catch

Glacier leads Capital 21-14

Tuner goes 77 yards for TD. Glacier leads 28-14
Is this game available to watch/listen anywhere?

http://mtsport.tv/ shows Bozeman and Glacier games. The Bozeman games are free, I think, but Glacier's game had a $7 fee tonight.

Kinda off-topic, but watching Glacier-Helena highlights from the Wolfpack website, I really like how the Glacier defense flies to the ball for the high school level. Wonder if the Griz coaches are interested in any.

Flathead and g falls tied at 21 going into 2nd ot

28-28 going into 3rd ot

What's great about this.. I went to GFH 86-88 when I was dual enrolled at the deaf school in GF. Then my JR year, transferred to flathead (hometown and had family there)

Senior year, Flathead went 0-12. :/

At least it helped build our character :coffee:

Glad flathead won, they really needed this win to get some traction..

That is a good win for Kalispell. Right now Butte is in the same boat. Any win is uplifting. Flathead and CMR cold be good match ups. Senior and Glacier on the road. Aargh. Another season losing our starting QB early. Aargh.

I think Senior will take state, beating Glacier like "a rented Newell". (Thanks Ursa!)

I'm not living in Montana, but what's the thing with hellgate not fielding a team?

Insufficient numbers. They forfeited several games last year. They have sub varsity football. I suspect Sentinal and Big Sky picked up a few extra players as a result. They seem to shuffle around in Missoula.

How can a school that big not have a team? Is it deeper than that?

Years of being the worst AA team in Montana had probably taken its toll on school interest. I can't remember the last time Hellgate won more than one game in a season.

Let's just say there are a lot of football players running cross country at Hellgate. They forfeited 2 games last year as kids quit, and Hellgate waited until June to hire a new coach which pretty much assured they wouldn't have enough kids for this fall. I think they hired a good coach though so it wouldn't surprise me if they start winning games in a few years. A couple kids transferred to Loyola but still had to sit out. I don't think any transferred to Sentinel or Big Sky because they were denied waivers so they would have to sit out.

:thumb: I figured was something like that. That would be a great story if they'd come back and win some games. Is there a feeder middle school for hellgate? They suck too? Haven't been to Missoula for years...bad part of town?

Missoula has club football for middle school, not associated with district. Not sure the original cause of their fall, but hellgate is usually good at basketball and soccer, just can't seen to get numbers out for football.

Butte isn't far behind. This years junior class was undefeated in 8th grade with two wins over Dillon and a win over Bozeman. By the time they got to high school half the kids don't go out for football. Some go to soccer some cross country, some don't do anything. It hurts when you start with a comparatively small school size. E.g., Bozeman 2000, Senior 1700, Butte 1250. The Missoula schools are the smallest at around 1100-1200. Kudus to the kids that stick it out. I hope Hellgate bounces back. I know the Butte coaches are good at keeping their players positive and resilient despite adversity.
