A Very Unselfish Team

This year's Griz men are a very unselfish team. Past teams have often been fairly unselfish, but this one is outstanding in that regard. My biggest gripe with the team is the number of dumb/bad passes on the periphery at times, often leading to easy break-away buckets.

I quoted Mick and Blaine on the ISU thread during that game:

Mick: "This is the most unselfish team I've ever seen."

Blaine: "Well, their coach is the University assist leader record holder."

Interesting. I've been thinking the same things for the last several games I've seen at home. Great minds ....

The Griz are creeping up in the category of assists per game too (currently #60 in the country). I've noticed in the box scores this year the number of assists compared to the number of made baskets is always pretty close. For example against PSU, 22 assists on 28 made buckets. Even in the loss against Sac it was 19 assists on 25 made shots. Definitely a good indication of a very unselfish team and probably the main reason the Griz are ranked fairly high (#49) in FG% on the year. They share the ball well finding the open guy and don't often take bad shots.

I thought it was neat to have Blaine commenting, and having that kind of knowledge at his fingertips ...

Nice article in the Missoulian about Kemp and Weisner.
Putting personal pride aside for the greater good of a team isn't always the easiest of tasks.

Basketball players want to play the game and they want to play it as much as possible. It's part and parcel of being a competitor.

The Montana men's basketball team – which opens Big Sky tournament play Thursday – has two seniors who have checked their egos at the door – Mike Weisner and Chris Kemp. Both players began the season in the starting five, but now find themselves coming off the bench for the league co-champions.

And neither is complaining.
