a different way to compare schedules...

there has been some discussion on which team had the tougher schedule, the bobs or the griz, with people using total win-loss records for each opponent to determine their overall records to make the comparison. obviously, team 'quality' can change with injuries, etc... so out of sheer boredom i calculated the records of each team they've played at the time they played. opponents of the griz were, at the times they played them, 37-35 w/l, whereas the bobs opponents were 39-38 w/l. this method would indicate that their schedules were about equal, win-loss wise, at the time they played.

does it mean anything? nah, it's the playoffs now.

But, but, but, they played Oregon!!!!!!

And lost by 312.

Nice work, argh! As we've been saying all season, the SOS was basically equal after removing the oregon game, which, let's be honest, wasn't a game at all, but rather a glorified scrimmage for the ducks.

Thx. I agree that the schedules were about even. And I tend to judge the schedules by watching/following/reviewing the games at the time they were played. It's not meaningful to try to compare scores and differentials because that get skewed by so many things. I don't mind look at the records stats. as just one of many stats, but anyone who tries to make a big deal the won-loss records shows me that they don't understand the game of football.

But, but, but they beat the Griz in Missoula.

when it is all said and done we will beat the scats in bozo...going to be epic...
Imagine for a moment what it will be like to lose to the Cats twice in the span of a month. How important is beating the Cats in Bozeman to the Griz program? The first game was for #2 seed and BSC championship, and to break the Cats streak of 16 conference game wins in a row. The next game (if it happens) will be to go to the natty and avoid 2 losses to the rival in one month, & 3 in about a one year span. Captain Obvious here, but if that happens the Cats will have won 8 of the last 10, gone to the natty 2 years in a row, and 3 of the last 5. This is potentially the most important games in Griz history IMHO, outside of their natty appearances. Yet the Cats get bashed for making the rival game one of their highest priorities. I so hope this game happens, regardless of the outcome. Yes indeed, I want another Cat win, but man, what a huge game!

Like I've said before, we're supposed to lose if we go to Bozeman.

The loss in Missoula was bad, and I still feel like we could have and should have won that game, but you've only lost one playoff game at home since 2014. It would still be a pretty good season, IMO, if we got a rematch, but acting like it somehow reshapes the rivalry or is an indictment of our coaches or program is a reach, at best. I'm sure you'll enjoy it if it happens, and you should, but losing two weeks ago was a much larger shot across the bow to us than anything that happens in the playoffs would be (negatively).

On the other hand, a win by this Griz team in Bozeman by a team your fans universally deride as inferior would be pretty shocking and probably the closest thing to a turning point in the rivalry we could expect.

Very well spoken, thank you. I appreciate that.

Schedules??? We’re still talking about schedules????

All a moot point now. No hypotheticals. Just play the team in front of you, survive, and advance for all 16 teams left.
