A-11 Offense Banned

The A11 offense, the crazy offense that was the new "thing" for high schools to run, especially in California where it was created, has been banned by the hierarchy that rules high school football. Kind of a bummer, really cool offense with great potential.. revolutionary like the Flexbone or Wishbone.

I wouldn't call it revolutionary, it took advantage of a loophole in the rulebook that is used in high school football and wouldn't have come into play in the college game. Takes advantage of numbering and formation to deceive defenses, but deceives officials too.

Montana actually banned the A-11 before the 2008 season, calling it a "travesty" of the rules.

Having run this offense in MT, I can tell you that there are still ways you can run the formation. It is now very limited in the plays you can run, but if you are creative enough you can make it work. You now just have 5 lineman, keep three of them inside, spread the tackles way outside. You can run screens, draws, and traditional running plays out of it. Screens work the best out of it though, at least in my experience.

When I was in middle school we had this team run the Batman offense against us a lot.. three inside lineman, QB in the shotgun or under center, then guys split out in the flat.. craziest thing, but pretty transparent to beat.
