7 Figure Payout to Montana for 2029 Vegas game

"The Grizzlies will receive a participation fee of $1.25 million from ESPN Productions, Inc., for competing in the game at Allegiant Stadium against fellow FCS power South Dakota State, according to a copy of the game contract obtained by the Missoulian and 406 MT Sports. That is a UM record for a payment from a single football game, athletic director Kent Haslam said."

"Once ticket sales reach $3.3 million, the additional revenue above that will be split equally three ways between UM, SDSU and ESPN Productions, which owns the event."

Wow! And likely will sell out, so could be more.
Sell out? 65,000 for a kickoff game, even on a Labor Day weekend? That’s a tall task for an FCS game.

In 2015 we had 26000 at the game at home against NDSU and we probably could have sold tickets for 30-35000 if we had the space. SDSU averages 18000 at home. Since it’s a direct flight we might get some good alum attendance from people that don’t typically go to home games. I don’t know what the local buy-in would be. I’d be impressed if it ended up with 50,000.

Penn state vs Boise State in a playoff game in 2024 only got 63,000. The HBCU has set the bar for the top 25 games for of single game attendance between 65,125 and 73,358. Proximity, culture and tradition play a big part of that. I believe (could be wrong) that no team outside of the HBCU has made the list.

I do hope we sell it out and the university gets a good pay day above and beyond the $1.25 million and another great national showcase game out of it.

It could sell out if it is a double header with a premier FBS game.
So with no mention of a "double header" and the statement "Once ticket sales reach $3.3 million, the additional revenue above that will be split equally three ways between UM, SDSU and ESPN Productions, which owns the event."....what would make you think otherwise.

The NDSU game in 2027 also has Utah vs Miami there might be something similar for the 2029 Vegas Kickoff

Hopefully they went charge out the a** for this game. They want $350 per ticket for decent tickets for the HBCU game in a few weeks. For comparison similar tickets for a UNLV game run about 90 bucks a ticket.

Of course, there are tons of available tickets for the HBCU game.

Ha, I blanked on the NFL stadium capacity.

Maybe it will be after a natty rematch or 2. 🤞

And x2, hopefully they don't over charge.

Awesome - hard to wait 4 years for this to happen but it'll be so fun. My hope is there's an FBS kickoff there that weekend as well so we could take in two games.

I was honestly thinking of going to the MSU v NDSU one in 27 as well - if the Griz are on the road and the game times don't conflict - could catch the Griz game at Torrey Pines and then go cheer for both teams to lose in the other game

Looks like more future Vegas Kickoff matchups have been announced:

2027
cats vs. NDSU
Miami vs. Utah

2028
BYU vs. Oregon State

2029
Griz vs. SDSU

2030
Arkansas vs. Texas Tech
