OregonGriz has a great point. It's unquestionable the value Griz football brings to the school and community in terms of recognition, exposure and hard dollars. Failing to recognize that and properly invest in the future of Griz athletics is missing an opportunity. It's kind of like saving your oil change money for the car wash. Unfortunately too many of our legislators never went to college and couldn't give a damn about funding the U system so funding will have to come from other sources. The administration should be visibly advocating for the funds to pay a competitive coaching staff salary and provide quality infrastructure.

We don't pay and will not sign a multi year contract.
Half right; Pflugrad had a 3-year contract. Hauck had them offered to him, but he turned them down, preferring one year contracts to help his mobility.

We are paying the coaches salary now thru taxes.
Incorrect; UM football is more than self-sufficient; coaches pay really comes from FB revenue.

If the football program wasn't/isn't paying, we would be funding the entire program with our tax dollars. Still a portion of our taxes go to coaches salary. I just am not sure of how much. Anyhow, this irrelevant to the fans collecting money to pay coaches...
