3 and outs

I imagine if the tailgaters had been back in their seats and sober for the second half, it would have made a difference by being both loud and cold. This would have translated to the GRIZ being best in space.
Such a stupid post...........but we must consider the source

True, I'm known on this site as a racist, misogynist, NDSU loving, contrarian. And next time they kick you off it's spelled "banned" not "band".

Careful Sask. You might hurt his feelings.

everyone talking about the penalties but of the 14 Griz drives on offense 8 ended in 3 and out. 3 straight to start the game and 5 straight to start the second half......
But no four and outs, either, which seems to be a change. Never went for it on fourth down once. Maybe never a good situation to try, maybe an adjustment in philosophy, maybe a coincidence. Whatever the reason and whatever the reason for the three and outs, a good SDSU team lost. Eight fewer teams will be playing next week, and the Grizzlies ain't one of them. Good enough result for me.

NDSU: 4/6
Cal Poly: 0/3
Liberty: 1/2
NAU: 2/3
UC Davis: 3/6
Weber: 1/3
UND: 1/2
ISU: 3/8
EWU: 2/2
MSU: 1/1
SDSU: 0/0

If it's a change, it's a very recent one. There were at least 2-3 times in the game where I thought they'd go for it on 4th down and didn't.

In the last two games Josh Horner has had 11 catches which I think all game in the 1st half. Seems like we go away from throwing over the middle when we get a lead. I kind of remember a game earlier in the year that was like that, can not remember which one. We had big success early over the middle and then just quit throwing over the middle third.

There's always a danger of losing some intensity with a big lead, especially right after halftime when everybody has settled down and yuks it up in the locker room, you see it at every level...all of a sudden the team that couldn't walk straight scores twice with ease and is back in it. In our case the last couple weeks you could tell the intensity was down a notch coming out the second half, and MSU/SDSU came out playing in desperation and made it work, not saying our kids or coaches weren't prepared, just a little lower adrenaline with the comfortable lead. We'll be ok next week.

And, my personal feeling, Stitt has tended to get a little bit conservative with big leads early...I understand that with 8 minutes left in the game, not so much with 2 quarters left. He has already acknowledged it so lesson learned I believe.

Hopefully we're in many more situations with big leads so he can practice. :thumb:
