A couple notes on this:
1. I wouldn't say that "quite a number" didn't feel UNC would be competitive. There are a few posters who moronically said they'd never win anything, but most of us knew with their recruiting area they'd eventually be competitive.
2. One year does not necessarily make one competitive. Let's see UNC do it consistently. Me thinks they're going to have a very difficult time doing that, at least in the short run. They start 5 players this year who have played in over 110 games each. Next year, it's not at all difficult to imagine they'll be fighting to even get into the BSC tournament.
3. FWIW, most of us
still believe Montana should be in a more competitive conference. But keep in mind that wins and losses are only a part of that equation (albeit a rather large one). But you must also consider things like facilities, attendance, interest in the program (both locally and nationally), ability to generate revenue, etc. Montana has absolutely no peers in the BSC when it comes to those things. Montana belongs in a "better" conference, and in my mind it's something you're going to see in 3-5 years.
