Time for the annual Record Watch thread. There probably won’t be any records broken but Junior may add to a couple of his current school records. There will be some new Top 10 members though and maybe a new Top 5 or two.

First Junior and his punt return records. He currently owns the school record in punt returns for TD’s and yards per PR with 5 TD’s and a 17+ yard average per return.
Punt Return Avg
1st 17.72 Junior Bergen ’21-‘24
2nd 15.01 Mark Mariani ‘06-‘09
Punt Return TD’s
1st 5 Junior Bergen ’21-‘24
t2nd 3 Levander Segars ‘01-‘04, Mark Mariani ‘06-‘09, Jerry Louis-McGee ‘16-‘19

He is also currently in 2nd in KR Avg behind Malik and IF teams will kick to him, he may pass him.
Kick Return Avg
1st 28.90 Malik Flowers ‘18-‘22(2nd in BSC, 8th in FCS)
2nd 27.58 Junior Bergen ‘21-‘24

On a stretch, he may also pass LV in career PR yards but he needs 529 and has yet to surpass that amount in a single season.
Punt Returns Yards
1st 1441 Levander Segars ‘01-‘04(BSC Record)
— 912 Junior Bergen ’21-‘24

A record Junior won’t break but will certainly crack is the top 10 and possibly the top 5 is career All Purpose yards. He needs 186 to move to #10 and 1,272 for top 5. Nick Otsmo may also crack the top 10 needing 1,140 to join Junior on the list.
All Purpose Yards
1st 5,441 Mark Mariani ‘06-‘09
2nd 4,994 Yohance Humphrey ‘98-‘01
3rd 4,958 Chase Reynolds ‘08-‘10
4th 4,828 Lex Hilliard ‘03-‘05, ‘07
5th 4,549 Levander Segars ‘01-‘04
— 3277 Junior Bergen ’21-‘24
— 2375 Nick Otsmo ‘19-‘24

Speaking of Nick and the other Griz RB’s, they will change some top 10 and top 5 rankings this year. Ostmo is currently 9th in career rushing yards and is only 373 yards from passing Rocky Klever for 5th all time, a very likely outcome. A less likely outcome but only due to the massive stable of Griz backs is the 1,579 yards rushing Ostmo needs to pass Canada and put himself on the Mt Rushmore of Griz RB’s. Xavier Harris, who will probably get most of his touches on the receiving end of the football, needs 560 yards to crack the top 10. A more likely outcome is Eli Gillman getting the 853 yards he needs to enter Montanas top 10 list…as a sophomore.
Rushing yards career
4th 3,435 Jordan Canada ‘11-‘14
5th 2,228 Rocky Klever ‘77-‘81
9th 1856 Nick Otsmo ‘19-‘24
10th 1,885 Josh Branen ‘95-‘97
24th 1326 Xavier Harris ‘20-‘24
— 1033 Eli Gilman ‘22-’26

Another top 5 Ostmo is looking to crack is the career rushing TD’s list, currently sitting at 10th. He is seven TD’s from passing Jeremy Calhoun and Marcus Knight for 5th and 20 from Canada at 4th. Assuming Nick gets at least one TD, Gillman will need nine to make it into the top 10 which is four less than he got last year. If he matches last years total, he’ll be one short of also joining the top 5.
Rushing TD’s career
4th 40 Jordan Canada ‘11-‘14
5th 27 Jeremy Calhoun ‘15-‘18, Marcus Knight ‘19-‘22
8th 22 Justin Green ‘03-‘04, Jody Farmer ‘86-‘89
10th 21 Nick Otsmo ‘19-‘24
t19th 13 Eli Gilman ‘22-’26

As for total TD’s, Ostmo is five from the top 5 and 10 from holding 4th to himself. Junior needs nine for top 5 status.
Total TD’s career
3rd 48 Yohance Humphrey ‘98-‘01
4th 33 Marc Mariani ‘06-‘09
5th 29 Jordan Canada ‘11-‘14, Sammy Akem ‘17-‘21, Marcus Knight ‘19-‘22
— 24 Nick Otsmo ‘19-‘23
— 20 Junior Bergen ’21-‘24

Now for the receiving rankings and arguably one of the top Sr trios in school history. Unfortunately due to a lack of a dominant passing game in recent history and, at least for this season, too many great targets to choose from, none of our big three in White, Bergen, and Fontes may see top 10 status. As for career receiving yards, Bergen, White, and Fontes all need 1168, 1169, and 1401 to crack the top 10.
Receiving Yards career
8th 2,527 Raul Pacheco ‘95-‘98
9th 2,488 Samori Toure ‘17-‘19
10th 2,402 Jeremy Watkins ‘96-‘99
— 1235 Junior Bergen ’21-‘24
— 1234 Keelan White ‘19-‘24
— 1001 Aaron Fontes ‘21-‘24

As for career receptions, White, Bergen, and Fontes all need 65, 73, and 85 receptions to crack the top 10.
Receiving Receptions career
8th 167 Scott Gurnsey ‘91-‘94
9th 166 Jeremy Watkins ‘96-‘99
10th 164 Mark Mariani ‘06-‘09
— 104 Keelan White ‘19-‘24
— 97 Junior Bergen ’21-‘24
— 85 Aaron Fontes ‘21-‘24
Considering that 2019 Samari Toure was the last 60 reception, 1,000 yard receiver we had, I’m gonna say, except maybe Junior, these rankings are long shots.

As for TD receptions, add Cole Grossman to the list of potential top 10 candidates. Unfortunately it’s the same situation with too many hands to throw to. Grossman, White, and Bergen all need 12 TD’s to pass Jimmy Farris and Raul Pacheco for 10th. One of them, maybe. Two of them, highly doubtful.
Receiving TD’s career
7th 24 Jon Talmage ‘02-‘05
8th 23 Ellis Henderson ‘12-‘13, ‘15
9th 22 Jamaal Jones ‘13-‘15
10th 21 Jimmy Farris ‘97-‘00, Raul Pacheco ‘95-‘98
— 10 Cole Grossman ‘20-‘24
— 10 Keelan White ‘19-‘24
— 10 Junior Bergen ’21-‘24
— 7 Aaron Fontes ‘21-‘24

As for the defense, don’t expect any movement this year. Colt sits at 10th in career tackles with 313 and Ryder Meyer is the active leader on the Griz roster with 104
Tackles
10th 313 Colt Anderson ‘04-‘08
— 104 Ryder Meyer ‘20-‘24

For sacks, Trey Young is 10th with 22 and Riley Wilson has 8.5. More then likely though Wilson will be working his way onto this list, and the career tackles for loss list next year as a Sr where Jace Lewis is 21.5 TFL ahead of him at 10th.
Sacks
7th 27 Mike Murphy ‘03-‘06
8th 24 Corey Falls ‘93-‘96
9th 23 Lance Spencer ‘02-‘05
10th 22 Trey Young ‘99-‘02
— 8.5 Riley Wilson ‘23-‘25
TFL’s
9th 39.0 Jason Crebo ‘94-‘97
10th 36.5 Jace Lewis ‘17-‘21
— 15.0 Riley Wilson ‘23-‘25

Trevin Gradney may crack the top 10 in INT’s though where he is currently 6 away from joining a six way tie for 7th. Granted he might not see many balls his way, resulting in this scenario not likely happening.
INT’s
4th 13 Blaine McElmurry ‘93-‘96, Torrey Thomas ‘04-‘07, Trumaine Johnson ‘08-‘11(forfeited two) ???
7th 11 Ed Cerkovnik ‘77-‘79, Tony Breland ‘85-‘87, Greg Nygren ‘86-‘88, Matt Hermanson ‘11-‘14, Todd Erickson ‘90-‘93, Justin Ford ‘20-‘22
— 5 Trevin Gradney ‘20-‘24

Awesome work! And I would like to once again point out that Trey Young had 22 career sacks and he played SAFETY! That is insane!

Nick Ostmo is now in 6th place overall in career rushing yards with 2085 and 143 behind Rocky Klever for top 5 all time, where he will likely finish the season cus 4th is another 1207 yards away. He is also now currently 8th all time in rushing TD’s.

After gaining 456 yards in the first 4 games, Gilman is now #20 all time rushing with 1489 and 396 yards from top 10 status

Xavier Harris would have moved from 24th to 23rd except he was also passed by Eli, keeping him at 24th with 1356.

Gillman is the most talented RB we have had here since Lex. Not saying he is better than Chase or Canada, just more gifted.
