2024 Griz Soccer

Griz and Sac State played to a scoreless draw. Griz really tested the Hornets goalkeeper but couldn't score (they had a total of 22 shots; eight of which came from Maddie Ditta, who also played all 90 minutes--Charley Boone and Reeve Borseth also played the full 90 minutes).

They just couldn’t get it to the back of the net. Couple of decent chances to come out with a W. Hopefully get through in Portland. Portland? Man now I forget the next one

Yes, but Griz/Portland State will be in Missoula. Will be last home game (Senior Day) before the conference tournament in Missoula, which will be on the first full week of November.

Their last two games after this weekend will be on the road at Weber State and Idaho State.

Ahhh...yes thank you. In my head I knew they had 2 in a row on the road to end it. Was a week early! Hahaha.

Griz beat PSU 1-0 on Senior Day today! Maddie Ditta with the goal from just outside the box, if I recall correctly. Huge 3 points to stay in contention for conference championship!

And we hold the tiebreaker over them as well
One thing that concerns me, though, is in the soccer point system wins are valued 3x more than draws (so, offensive teams have the advantage). And Idaho has yet to be shutout this season. Meanwhile, Montana had 2 draws the last two games coming into today and didn't break through until late (like 85ish minute). Therefore, if Idaho beats Northern Colorado (which is likely), Idaho will have 19 points. That would mean Montana would HAVE to WIN both remaining games to get to 20 points, despite possibly being unbeaten in conference and owning the Head-To-Head over Idaho. Even one draw (or loss) this week for UM would mean at most the Griz could only get to 18 points.

Less than 10 minutes in and Griz up 2-0 on WSU! Estes scored about 45 seconds into match and now an own goal off a deflection from an Ava Samuelson pass.

Coach Citowicki is worth his weight in gold! 4th regular season title in 6 years and if we can win, it’ll be his 4th tourney title. Huge having the tourney at home this year (and next year too). Despite all the injuries and all the adversity, this team still found a way. 2 weeks until the tourney starts. Rest up and see if we can get some of the big hitters back!

But bad news as Borseth goes down with apparent leg injury and is helped off:(
I missed that. Honestly when I noticed, thought maybe because it was 2-0 at that point. Too many injuries this year. My 11 year old has decided she wants to be 22 going forward because "hey dad, are there any freshman playing?" Just as Reagan Brisendine checks in. "yes, Reagan, there are. And in fact a freshman Reagan just checked in.". Now her favorite player hahaha. Too bad we live in AZ...my older daughter was 37 for club hahahahahaahaha

BTW, PSU won the first tourney game over EWU after about 3 hours. (Tied 1-1 after regulation then after 2 scoreless OT periods, moved on with a 7-6 penalty kicks advantage.)
