please explain. we lost the best l.b. crew in school history. the tenth ranked l.b. (tripp) and 18th ranked tackle (kistler) in the nation. both likely draft picks. not to mention goodwin, poehls, oiland, bienemann and pierson. we may not have lost a lot of seniors, but who we lost were damn good. we may have a few guys that can match some of them, but overall we're down especially on defense. our secondary will be just as bad, no way will we be as good at l.b., and the d.l. will be slightly better. we were fifth in the bsc this year.

of the twelve best players on the team at least nine are gone. jp, tripp, coyle, kistler, poehls, oiland, bienemann, pierson, goodwin. with henderson, wags, j.j. being the other three.

Easy explanation; your judgement of football talent is exposed. Our losses are basically the linebackers and right side of the OL. That is less than normal graduation damage. What is not normal is that all key O skill position players return from a very strong offense. Pierson was an average at best TE; yet you exclude all of our RBs, all WRs but EH and D-lineman except Bienemann and Wagenmann. So players like Takai, Schmaing, Canada, Van, Jones, Kidder, and Hermanson don't make your list.

While our LBs and right side OL were good, they were not dominant in case you didn't notice. We have no one I see that can step up to Coyle's work at MLB, but I am not alarmed about succession plans for the others. But for a far,far tougher schedule, our overall prospects for '14 are better than '13.

Isn't Kose, the big gamble at MLB? Either he hangs it up and Griz go hunting for a transfer, or Kose overcomes his injuries and plays. The latter sounds like the bigger risk, given that another injury could take him out for part of the season.

Who on page one do we really have a chance at landing? I figured Curran would be a long shot as well as Richey, Sykes, Ross, McIntyre, Dilosa, Cook, Martin....... I wish some of you guys "in the know" would post your wisdom. I'm really hoping that were in for some surprises. Seems like this site has had more information posted in previous years.

How about Ari Morales? Any word he might re-commit? Or Tyrone Holmes younger brother? Austin? I don't see anywhere that we've offered.

It appears that Ari has enlisted in the Marine Corps. Can't fault the young man, was hoping to see him in maroon and silver, but he is answering a higher calling.
 
AZ....hope you had a good laugh. The entire season, the OL allowed JJ to be demolished and opened few holes for our talented running backs. Big, slow and confused regarding their blocking assignments would describe the OL.
 
Boy oh boy, than the Griz were STILL better than every other O-Line in the league, because the OTHER Big Sky coaches voted four of the five O-lineman All-Conference, and the most any other team had was three. So I guess guys like Beau Baldwin, Rob Ash, Mike Kramer and Jerome Souers don't know what the hell they're talking about and can't judge O-Line talent very well.

With the exception of the NAU game our OL was pretty good most the season. Like every OL we had a few missed assignments, etc. The bigger problem in the hits JJ took started at the over reliance on long pass routes and/or JJ choosing to not utilize quicker shorter pass routes. That change alone would help the OL, JJ, and the team.

I love the long ball as much as the next guy. I just think this past season the GRIZ relied on it way too much. Back to recruiting, I'd love to see 2 to 3 OL new recruits every season. :thumb:

You should try watching the games without being on mushrooms. :thumb:

That myth (of JJ being demolished every game) has already been disproven by me. I've also posted the statistics that prove we had one of the best O-lines in the conference, and havgrizfan's point drives it home. Our O-line was NOT big, slow and confused. They, for the most part, performed very well all season long. You don't go 10-3 with a big, slow, confused O-line.
 
This one kinda hurts... I thought the Griz might get this guy.

Yup, that sucks. But I figured Curran was a FBS prospect and San Jose has become a respectable program. So far, the good news is, I haven't seen Montana publicly lose a recruit to a fellow FCS team..yet. But I imagine at the end of the day, the Griz won't keep Reese and Kia already decomitted. So on signing day, I'm guessing we'll hear about quite a few signees we didn't know a whole lot about to begin with.
