please explain. we lost the best l.b. crew in school history. the tenth ranked l.b. (tripp) and 18th ranked tackle (kistler) in the nation. both likely draft picks. not to mention goodwin, poehls, oiland, bienemann and pierson. we may not have lost a lot of seniors, but who we lost were damn good. we may have a few guys that can match some of them, but overall we're down especially on defense. our secondary will be just as bad, no way will we be as good at l.b., and the d.l. will be slightly better. we were fifth in the bsc this year.

of the twelve best players on the team at least nine are gone. jp, tripp, coyle, kistler, poehls, oiland, bienemann, pierson, goodwin. with henderson, wags, j.j. being the other three.

Good thing that doesn't happen EVERY year.
it doesn't. just go back one year and look at who we lost in 2012. you won't find nine of the top twelve gone. of the eight starters lost only 3-4 were top 12. nguyen, harris, hendrickson and moore. a couple of those are a stretch for top 12 of that 2012 team.

Nothing like cherry picking....that was the ONE year in 26 where we had a below-.500 record.

What about 2008? 2009? 2010? 2011?

Give me a Levi Horn and Cody Balough in the lineup and Danny Kistler and William Poehls would be second string. 2014 Griz will be much stronger and play more as a team then the 2013 Griz...I do truly believe this.

the 2010 team didn't lose much and 2011 was a good year, but the 2009 team did lose a lot and 2010 wasn't so good. 03-04-05 is similar that way. it's not difficult to understand that when you lose a lot of good players the next is usually tougher than when you don't lose a lot of good players is it?

Brandon Dotson
Tyler Hobbs
Jeff Larson
Russell Piette
Justin Roper
Andrew Selle
Erik Stoll
Chase Reynolds

Yep. Not much there.

Anybody have actual recruiting news to share?
Yeah. Who's got something to share? Seems pretty quiet here with only 30 days until signing day. Is no news good news?

I believe the quiet period ends in less than 24 hours.

Needs:
OL/DL - Starter Level Talent
LB - Starter Level
CB - Physical & Tackles in space

Wants:
Well designed Short/Mid Range passing game
A more diversified & athletic defensive scheme
Consistent success kicking & blocking during Special Teams

Give me some of this in 2014 and get the hell out the way
:thumb:

I love "fans" who insist that, because we LOST starters, we must not have starter-level talent on the roster. You guys f***[*] slay me.
And we lost fewer relevant seniors than in a normal year.

Easy explanation; your judgement of football talent is exposed. Our losses are basically the linebackers and right side of the OL. That is less than normal graduation damage. What is not normal is that all key O skill position players return from a very strong offense. Pierson was an average at best TE; yet you exclude all of our RBs, all WRs but EH and D-lineman except Bienemann and Wagenmann. So players like Takai, Schmaing, Canada, Van, Jones, Kidder, and Hermanson don't make your list.

While our LBs and right side OL were good, they were not dominant in case you didn't notice. We have no one I see that can step up to Coyle's work at MLB, but I am not alarmed about succession plans for the others. But for a far,far tougher schedule, our overall prospects for '14 are better than '13.

You guys worry way too much. We are very much like NDSU, and they are very much like us. Good recruiting year after year which allows new players to replace graduating "stars" that perform as well or even better than the players who graduate. Recent guys like Mariani, Reynolds, Anderson seem to come out of nowhere and accel. Some (most) guys, when given the starting job, perform at much higher levels than when subbing or when in on second string. In spite of my lack of faith in the current HC, I feel good about the position coaches and look for equal if not better performances from the OL and LB corps next year. The talent is there.

By "you guys", I assume you're referring to GetGrizzly? Because I agree with your statement 100%.

"Getgrizzy" I believe the Griz defense will be much better this year...I also believe the griz offense will almost be unstoppable...I forsee 42.3 pts per game by the griz and only 16 allowed by the defense. This year the Griz faithful will be treated to a "wholeteam" concept.

Any word on who our potential recruiting class will be? I see lots of other schools post who they are after....

Well him and the rest of the "glass is half full", "cupboard is bare", "sky is falling" doomsday crowd. Save that attitude for Engstrom's recruits, not the players.
