Payton, that was so well said. I think the comment about where are the offers to guys the Griz have a chance at is an underhanded way of saying "where are the Montana kids on this list?" I LOVE that since BH the Griz at least recruit these high-level players. I remember BH and Pflu both sayin that they were going to go after FBS kids no matter how many times we get told no. IMHO that recruiting strategy has worked out pretty well. People should just relax. February is a LONNGGGGGG wayyyy off. The names on Payton's list will change. Montana kids will appear. Chill...And Payton, thanks for all you do.

Tell you what....how about you don't put words in my mouth? It has NOTHING to do with Montana kids, period. Personally, I couldn't care less whether there are ANY Montana kids on the list. It was a legitimate question regarding our possibility of landing ANY of those kids. How about YOU chill, with all your "Montana kids" conspiracy theories.

I agree w AZ get the best players period and pursue all who have an interest in playing for championships on a regular basis. I am from Big Sky Country and I believe that we have a limited amount of kids to recruit from. We have to continue to own the NW region, keep the Arizona, San Diego connections ripe and then grab from all the northern plain states to go with what we can get out of OR, WA, ID, NV, CO, UT & MT.

I'm no payton, but...buy low, sell high. :D 8-)

DB- Jordan Thomas 6'0" 185 (Stellar Prep) Hayward, CA (2 Star)

Jordan Thomas who was considering Montana and Eastern Washington was offered by Arizona State today and committed on the spot. We can take this one off the list.

Wide receiver Jamaal Jones comes to UM from the University of Washington, while fullback Jamal Wilson is a transfer from Boise State.

Talk about 'the pieces falling into place' around here; with a 5'11 238 lbs. FB that likes to hit whose blocking acts as a springboard for the likes of Van, Canada, Counts and Kirshner hitting the open field it's Tail-Back U.

Well put, WyomingGrizFan!

Bdizzle - You mentioned how CJ Spencer was invited to Trent Dilfers Elite 11 Camp, and that seemed like a pretty big deal. I totally agree, Dilfer and his staff evaluate what they believe to be the best QBs in the country and only invite them. I can't remember the exact number he brings in but it's like 20 to 30? The QBs compete at the camp, and the top 11 of them are ranked daily and posted on the wall. It's a huge deal to be invited and a MAJOR big deal to make the Elite 11 final list at the end of the camp. Very prestigous. I watched the camp on ESPN this past season. In another post you said that it can't be a bad thing that recruits are seeing teams like UCLA, USC, Oregon and Montana in the same recruiting breathe. I totally agree! Can't hurt brother... :D

PaytonLives - You mentioned how verbals are non-binding (on either side, players or coaches). And that scholarships are 1-year agreements only. Another thing that not a lot of people know about recruiting and scholarships is that techniquely high school kids DO NOT have to sign a NLI (National Letter of Intent) to accept a scholarship. You do have to sign an aid agreement. Those are two seperate forms. But in reality, high school kids (unless they are a top 25 recruit) better sign that NLI or the school will offer the scholarship to someone else that will sign the binding NLI.

HighlineGriz - You asked if Dallas Cook, Butte QB, was being recruited as a QB or Athlete. He is being recruited as a QB. As NikeGrizz mentioned, several Pac 12 schools (Oregon, Washington, Oregon State) and Penn State has shown interest. He's a stud, and I would like to see him tearing up the BSC as a Griz. But if not, I would like to see him join former Butte High teammate Cody Carriger, DE at Oregon. :thumb:

On the Griz radar for the 2015 recruiting class is current Butte High sophomore WR Dalton Daum, one of the faster sprinters in the state. He's beaten the current Montana Football Gatorade Player of the Year (2013 cat football commit Gunnar Brekke, RB/DB/WR) in a couple races (100, 200) I've seen this track season. Daum is not just "one of those track guys" though that tries to play WR that you sometimes see. You know, guys that are straight line fast and just run deep sideline routes. He is a football player, that runs all the routes and shows great ball skills on every type of route. In the 2012 championship game versus Bozeman, as a Soph, Daum showed his ability to win his one-on-one battle at the line-of-scrimmage in press coverage and haul in a 95 yard touchdown bomb...

GO GRIZ

Homer

Homer? I don't think so.

Award winning sports writer and UM grad Colter Nuanez, after having talked with college and high school coaches, and other media members, along with evaluating previous season stats and camps...has come up with the states top returning 60 players: bobcatnation.com (then click on recruiting central tab)

Here is the #1 ranked recruit (not only at his postion, but #1 recruit period) in the state for the class of 2015:

Dalton Daum, WR/DB, Butte, Class of 2015

Submitted by Colter_Nuanez on Sat, 05/04/2013 - 17:19

Dalton Daum, WR/DB, Butte, Junior: Plain and simple, Daum is a blur. As a sophomore this spring, the 6-foot-1, 170-pouner has the fourth-fastest time in the 100 meters (10.98 seconds) and the 6th-fastest 200 time (22.41), all-class. He also runs a leg on the state’s fastest 4x100 relay team (43.24).

On the football field, Daum was one of QB Dallas Cook’s most dangerous weapons. The Bulldogs spread the ball around during last fall’s state title run, but Daum was the primary target. The speedster can line up on the outside or in the slot and he’s equally dangerous everywhere. He had 60 catches for 894 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore.

Not only is Daum a burner, but he has soft hands and he attacks passes. He can beat guys over the top and underneath. His speed is sure to improve, as is his size. He’s got the baseline talent already to be a sought after recruit in the Treasure State.

...the 95 yard play was not stopped, but was later called back for an "illegal procedure" penalty supposedly just prior to the snap.

Daum's Soph season: 60 Rec 894 yards 8 td -- he also averaged 4.7 yards a rush.

Had the 95 yard touchdown stood, Daum would have had just shy (989) of a 1,000 yard Soph reception season. Not bad for tieing for #2 in receptions on the team with SR Jon Allen at 60. 1st team All-State went to the #1 pass catcher on BHS which was SR Bryce Armstrong with 72 catches.

Daum was the first guy on the 2nd team All-State honors list at WR (the only Soph to make the list out of the 13 wide recievers honored).

With Daum being the main WR the next 2 seasons in Butte with the number one offense and MVP QB for another year, it's safe to say Daum will have a pretty prolific HS career and is a "safe bet" to be on the Griz "radar".

Dylan Tatarka, GFH, 6-2, 170, Sr.

** Just 2 JUNIORS and 1 SOPH

Stop wasting your breath, the Griz are stacked with WR talent for the next 3-4 years. If theres a Montana kid that is going to break the line-up he is going to have to be special. Why all this wasted talk about WRs. The Griz needs OL/DL depth over the same couple years and we could be making a couple trips to Frisco.

It's a good thing then that Daum won't be a college senior for 7 years then. And it's even better that Daum is special (college Mariani like is my future prediction).

During ths years class AA state championship game, Daum (as a soph) had the best performance of anybody on the field in a lot of peoples opinion. Even though Dissley, Cook and Weyer, who were also on the field, are slightly ranked ahead of him as returning players this season, but they are 1 year ahead of him as well, something to consider. The two best teams in the state and the best players in the state were on the field, and Daum dominated. (The 3 other standouts played great too.) Daum had 2 TDs and 2 INTs in the title game. Can you say differnce maker? College coaches can. 1 TD was actually nullified, so he gets credit for 1 TD .

From the montana standard:

"...The win came as a youngster, sophomore Dalton Daum, came up with big plays on both sides of the ball, with key receptions (score) and and two picks on defense." ... "Dalton Daum picked off a 14 yard pass at the ONE and the Bulldogs held. Then came the greatest touchdown that never was. On their first play from their own 4 yard line Cook hit the speedy Daum with a nice go route and the sophomore reciever streaked 96 yards into the endzone for a 20-7 lead. But a sketchy illegal shift call brought the play back and took the touchdown off the board. No biggie. Butte marched down the field 98 yards and capped off an impressive punch-in-the-mouth drive on a 1 yard touchdown run and a 20-7 lead." ...

Near the end of the epic game, after Bozeman recovered the on-side kick and took the lead...Daum returned the following kickoff almost to the house with just seconds remaining. Their was only 1 Hawk left that had the angle on the sideline. It was a sweet return, out to somewhere around mid-field. I don't remember the exact spot. If Daum doesn't get that huge return, Butte does not line up for that winning kick, period.

People that witnessed that game called it possibly the greatest state championship in history.

(Congratulations to Dissley, Weyer and Collins -- future FBS or FCS players from Bozeman...you guys played great!)

It's being reported on our boards that he was offered at camp today, and supposedly he has tweeted it but I don't have a twitter account so I can't verify that one. All speculation right now.

@JPktik: 6' 3" 220lb Borah LB/DE Hawkins Mann has apparently given a verbal commitment to play at BSU. Had given verbal to Montana in March.

And

@KTVBSportsGuy: What a #FathersDay present for #Borah AD Vince Mann. His boy, Hawkins, was offered a scholie by #BoiseState today. Can confirm he accepted!

:x That's too bad.

Best of luck to him, though. Gotta take a scholly offer from Boise any day.

I have seen him play many times... Great Atl.

Don't know if this bothers anyone else, but Payton listing transfers that will be suiting up this Fall as part of the 2014 recruiting class doesn't make any sense at any level.

New future additions to the team since the signing of the "13" class. Makes sense to me.

Thanks, Payton!
