2014 Griz Football Recruiting (10 Signed /15 Formal admission)

I'm learning that Scouts and Rivals don't even come close to telling our recruiting story. At this point, our front page list, outside confirmed verbals, may be completely wrong. There may be unreported verbals (to the Griz or to other schools), offers may have been pulled, etc.

Personally, I'm going to stop obsessively checking this thread and simply look forward to, hopefully, a few pleasant surprises on signing day!

I think most people realize that this isn't an exact science....but it doesn't change the excitement level any. I, for one, will CONTINUE to obsessively check this thread every hour on the hour...

Ha! Guess I am too. Feel free to ignore any future proclamations that I make.

It has seemed extremely quiet on here lately. Usually both Egriz and BN are really buzzing this time of year with recruiting stuff. BN has been much more busy this year. Your coaching staff must be really keeping a lid on what they are doing. Has to be really frustrating. Well, it's only a couple of weeks and we will know the actual results. I am sure there will be surprises for both schools before it's all done!

Actually, I think eight announced verbals when you only have approximately 11 full schollies to give is pretty good. Not to mention, school still hasn't started at UM, so transfers can's be announced, and we don't know who else is leaving the program at this point.

My prediction is that someone on here calls this the best recruiting class of all time after NLI day...ha

It's gonna take a TON of surprises at this point to top last year's class.

I know. It was a joke. It seems like people make that claim about every class, regardless of how good it actually is. You never really know until a few years down the road though...

An "experienced" offensive lineman or two would really help out. Losing Kistler, Pohles, and Oiland is huge. We lose a total of 13 seniors. Anyone know how many scholarships we had to work with?

I'd be surprised if we have 11 full to give with the NCAA getting 4. I imagine they are splitting them up like crazy.

Kem, the last I heard is it was 11 at season's end. Ginn likely opened up some more money as well, and I won't be surprised to hear at least one more scholly player who won't be back this semester. Now, that being said, I'm sure there are some walk-ons and partials who will also be giving a bump for next school year so that factor also plays into it.

Hmmm. The Griz have eight listed verbals one Egriz and 50 percent of them are from the state of Montana during the first recruiting season of the scholarship reduction. Bigkid, BESIDES Grant Collins, who was NEVER EVER EVER going to come to the UM no matter how hard the Griz recruited him, who else from Montana do you REALLY WANT that is out there and completely deserving of a FULL scholarship over say a player offered in say Washington or California. And Will Dissley doesn't count either. He and Cook still have fullride offers from Montana on the table. I'm asking who else, BESIDES, Collins, Dissley and Cook are TRULEY deserving of a full ride this year?

I talked with a "previous" AD in length over in state recruiting and concluded with the UM scholarship fiasco we will be unable to get many of the Montana kids we would otherwise have a good chance at. Many would have to walk on or at very best get some kind of partial. Face it for the next, now two years in state recruiting won't be nearly as productive. That surely doesn't mean we won't get quality kids but our immediate needs will come from primarily outside of the state.

I don't expect the self imposed sanctions of 4 scholarships to have a major impact on UM's recruiting. UM goes from 63 to 59 scholarships, and I believe Haslam indicated at the time of the NCAA decisions, that UM generally goes through a season with only about 61 occupied scholarships. If this is the case, I have a hard time believing there aren't 2 scholarships that can be freed up either via attrition or cutting loose some dead weight...assuming APR is in good enough shape to drop a couple guys.

BTW: Has the missoulian (or anyone) provided an update on recruiting recently, specifically with a report of how many guys delaney plans to sign? I tried searching the grizzly football section of the missoulian, but didn't see anything with regard to recruiting. I'm wondering if you all are suffering more froma a lack of reporting rather than a lack of recruiting. With school starting next week, there's a possibility there may be some mid-year transfers announced.

The Missoulian reporting has been slow to non-existent on the recruiting front this year. With school starting next week I expect UM to announce some incoming transfers who have already committed and will be officially enrolled next week. Hopefully once those transfer announcements are made we will also hear an update on the high school commitment front. Just because it's been slow on Egriz doesn't mean the coaches haven't been busy or that this won't be another quality recruiting class. Patience grasshopper...
