Montana goes 10-3 & earns #8 seed/
earns at-large berth in 2013 FCS playoffs

THE SEASON: The University of Montana Grizzlies finshed the 2013 season with a 10-3
overall record and 6-2 (third) in the Big Sky Conference.

WINNING WAYS: Montana’s overtime win at Sacramento State on Nov. 2nd gave the Grizzlies
their 27th winning season in the past 28 years (since 1986).

GRIZ RADIO: Veteran Mick Holien wrapped up his 21st season calling the play-by-play as the
“Voice of the Grizzlies.” Scott Gurnsey finished his 16th year serving as the in-booth analyst,
while Greg Sundberg served as the sideline reporter for his third season.

PLAYOFF VETS: Montana made its 21st appearance in the national playoffs in the 2013
season -- the most in division history. UM’s 30 playoff wins are the second most in division
history (45, Georgia Southern). UM had a record 17 playoff berths in a row from 1993-2009,
and have been in the playoffs 18 of the past 21 seasons.

MONTANA SECOND IN THE FCS IN ATTENDANCE: The Griz were second in the nation
in average attendance, at 24,380 in seven games. Appalachian State was the leader (24,894
average in six games), while James Madison was third (21,011 average in seven games).

GRIZ RANKED EIGHTH IN BOTH FINAL POLLS: Montana was ranked eighth in the nation
in both the Sports Network and FCS Coaches final polls of the sason. The Griz began the season ranked 20th/22nd, and their highest ranking was fifth in week 12 by the Sports Network.

THREE GRIZ IN ALL-STAR GAMES: For the first time in school history Montana had three
players participate in post-season all-star games. Linebacker Brock Coyle played in the NFLPA
Collegiate Bowl in Carson, Calif.; offensive tackle Danny Kistler Jr. started for the west team in the East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Flor.; and linebacker Jordan Tripp participated in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., and he was also invited to play in the East-West Shrine Game.

CANADA IN THE RECORD BOOKS: Junior halfback Jordan Canada had 16 TD runs in
2013 -- tying him for the fifth most in a season. His 1,062 rushing yards this past season rank him 10th in single-season history. Canada is the eighth running back ever at UM to gain 1,000 or more yards in a season.

JOHNSON IN THE RECORD BOOKS: Junior quarterback Jordan Johnson passed for 32
touchdowns and 3,387 yards in 2013, ranking him fourth and fifth in single-season history in
those two categories.

HENDERSON IN THE BOOKS TOO: Sophomore wide receiver/returner Ellis Henderson
had 14 receiving touchdowns this past season, which tied him for the third most in a season with Etu Molden (14, 2001), while his 1,008 receiving yards tie him with Matt Wells (1,008, 1995) for the 10th most in a year. Henderson is the 11th receiver in school history to have more than 1,000 receiving yards in a season.

LINEBACKERS LEAVE THEIR MARK: UM’s three senior starting linebackers ended their
careers ranked in the top 20 in school history in total tackles. Tripp is fourth with 335 career
tackles, followed by Coyle who is tied at 12th with 292 (linebacker Caleb McSurdy also had 293 career tackles from 2008-11), and J.P. Kanongata’a 17th with 269. Tripp also set a school record with 10 career fumble recoveries.

DELANEY A FINALIST FOR NATIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD: Following the
2013 season, second-year Griz head coach Mick Delaney was named one of five finalists for the Liberty Mutual’s FCS “Coach of the Year.”

GRIZ HAVE FOUR FIRST TEAM ALL-LEAGUERS: Montana had four teams named first team
all-conference: Kistler Jr., senior linebackers Kanongata’a and Tripp, and junior defensive end Zack Wagenmann. Kistler, Tripp, and Wagenmann were also first team picks in 2012. (UM’s all-league selections on add 26-26-26).
