All FCS teams can take non-qualifiers. There wouldn't be any advantage for one university over another.

Eastern's philosophy is that taking a couple of prop kids is a no-lose proposition because you aren't out any money when they sign. They have to pay their own way through the first year of college--- most likely getting aid, but without AD monies-- so if they wash out, so be it. Plus, Eastern really works hard to keep those kids around; they spend a lot of time kicking kids in the ass academically.

Prop kids are always a 50/50 deal, for every one that works out, another may not even set foot on campus. After all, let's face it, how lazy do you have to be if high school is breaking your balls? Some kids just don't find the motivation until they are forced to, others just don't ever find it.

Eastern is a glorified Junior College. They don't have to spend time with the kids to get them ready academically.

I guess they only teach acting with class at JC schools...

As for the original title of this thread, it appears the Griz have a pretty strong class this year, nicely done. Haven't seen any news on a freshman QB, I can't imagine the Griz plan to stick with the QB's on your roster and I would guess JJ coming back is a crapshoot, whats the word on a transfer or frosh QB?
Makena Simis from Boise, Idaho committed a long time ago. He was our first verbal in this class. Looks like a talented dual threat QB.

Lots of people saying JJ will come back.
Lots of people saying JJ won't come back.

I personally think he's got a good chance to win his trial, but you never know. And even if he does, there's no 100% guarantee that he'll play again.

just when i'm convinced he'll win his trial, paoli makes another motion to dismiss that is so far from happening that he looks desperate and i go back to square 1. maybe its just a routine move and i'm reading too much into it.

You are reading too much into it. Once a case goes to a jury there is no such thing as a "sure thing." Juries are famous for coming up with bizarre decisions that may not necessarily have anything to do with the facts or law presented to them. An attorney is going to make every effort to get a good result for their client, even if they are confident in "winning" at trial. Rather than putting all of their eggs in the trial basket JJ's attorneys are rightfully making good use of any other strategic ways to be victorious. It is not a sign of weakness, it is merely good and thorough legal strategy.

This is along the same lines of how Twain Jones ended up at EWU. I am all for EWU giving kids a chance to succeed at football, the classroom and life.

You beat me to it (T Jones). Good point.

The Raiders got a speedster, thanks to EWU.

:agree:

Coaches around the country are MISERABLE right now. They are nervous wrecks, having their fates in the hands of 17 year kids! :-| They will be up until 1:30am tonight and then up again 3 hours later at 4:30am all worked-up. There won't be much  that's for sure.

So hats off to the UM coaching staff, and everyone that had a hand (however how small) in recruiting these great kids. Thank you for all that you've done, and will continue to do.

GO GRIZ :egriz:

PS. I saw 2012 team captain and senior Peter Nguyen on the noon news today. His comment really impressed me, it shined a bright light on what tremendous young people UM can bring in and mold into even classier young men.

Peter Nguyen - Billings noon news - "I can't guarantee that they will be champions every other year (going forward), but I can guarantee that they will be champions off and on the field with this coaching staff."

Trials are indeed a crapshoot. In addition, trials are tremendously expensive. Any defense attorney worth his salt will try to avoid a trial at every opportunity short of course of pleading guilty or pleading to any agreement that doesn't equate to complete exoneration, especially when their are as many questions about what happened as there are in this case.

@ Paytonlives, been following your commentary for some time, just wanted to say I think you have a good eye for talent regardless of the name behind it, your comments can be brutally honest but very fair. I thoroughly enjoy this board. It appears things are shaping up very nicely over there. It should be a great season. Very exciting.

I hear Husar's mother is a huge fan and looks great in Copper!

Does that mean JJ Husar will be a griz? Hope so!!

thanks for the kind words...

Please tell us JJ will be a griz!!! It is unfortunate that players get hurt, but in JJ case it was good for UM. Without the injury I think he is playing somewhere else.

So do tell... Is he a Griz "Husar"Amx? or should I say Husar mom?

have fun tomorrow. looks like you guys have another good class to be excited about.

Cats did well in-state Jeffries, Timmer and Brekke are all very good players.

UM was in a "need for speed" and loaded up on guys that can fly.

Diferent needs and ways to get there, but both great classes.

J.J. Husar played in 7 games this year and had

1,068 yards on 106 carries (10YPC) and 14 touchdowns.

Just wanted to acknowledge a great recruiting class by Mick and team. The pipeline continues to be very strong in WA, OR, and AZ.

http://recruiting.scout.com/3/2013_Washington.html
In WA, the griz got the 21st ranked recruit and they got the highest ranked recruit by any FCS team.

http://recruiting.scout.com/3/2013_Oregon.html
In OR, the griz got the 11th and 18th ranked recruits and they got the highest ranked recruit by any FCS team.

In AZ, the griz got the 33rd and 36th ranked recruits.
