2013 Griz Football Class Signed (24)

Sunday is the last day that coaches can contact players (Quiet period), then the waiting begins. Monday through Wednesday are Dead Period.

But... Athletes can contact coaches anytime they want during these periods.

Quiet Period — Recruits can visit with college coaches but only at those college campuses.

Dead Period — Coaches are not permitted to make in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations on or off-campus or to permit official or unofficial visits by recruits or to make phone calls to recruits.

One of those guys is highly touted Wide Receiver Kendrick Bourne (6’2.5″ 287 pounds, 1,284 yards in 2012) from Milwaukie High School. He had offers from Portland State, North Dakota, Eastern Washington, and Idaho.

A few weeks ago Kendrick was down to PSU and EWU. In the end he had wanted to go to EWU but found out his offer there had been filled by other top guys. But somehow a spot reopened and EWU offered him again in the last few days.

That made Bourne jump. The only problem is that Kendrick verbally committed to Coach Nigel Burton and the Vikings this past week feeling that was his best option. However when the offer to EWU opened back up he had to switch according to him.

I would really love to sign Anthony Davis...

ATH- Anthony Davis 6'4" 205 (Vermont Academy) Saxtons River, VT (+Elon, Florida A&M, Bryant & Ind State)

Just watched his highlights and he looks like a freak of an athlete

It looks like Michael Carlson is still uncommitted and that it is down to the Griz and Cats. I would think that it would be an easy decision for a player from the Bellevue/Seattle area. Playing in Washington-Griz stadium with sellouts every game is something that the Cats cannot compete with and of course the Griz have the championship tradition. Missoula is a much better town to go to college (way more fun and warmer) and there are more women than men at UM (MSU is the opposite). Missoula is also much closer to Bellevue. We will see what he does, but I also assume the Griz are running out of scholarships by now.

Not trying to be a negative nanny here, but does it concern ANYONE that we seem to be getting an inordinate number of our recruits from TWO high schools (Sheldon, OR and Bellevue, WA)?

I can't think of very many programs in the entire Northwest who I would rather have the Griz start a pipeline with. I think its a huge positive that the Griz coaches have such good relationships with the Sheldon and Bellvue coaches.

Sheldon is arguably the best large school program in Oregon.
Bellevue is the same in Washington.

AZGF, what do you see as the downside?

If you had a pro team, would it bother you to get a large number of draftees from Alabama and Oregon?
I wouldn't worry too long about it.

m.d. said a while back, he had 12-15 scholies to work with this year,,,i am wondering if we are a might optomistic in our number of recruits given the high quality this class seems to have...even with partials, it doesn't add up imo...i guess we will see come wed......go griz!!!!! what i tried to say is , with the dead period, i wonder if some of our really good recrits will not be taken by full rides over partials....we may be penny wise and dollar foolish...

Bottom line is if we walk onto the field with a sured up safety position and a QB we are going to be a very good football team. The offensive line is very good and the defensive front 7 will be one of the best in the league. We worry to much!

I agree. Forming relationships and a "pipeline" with these programs is key and gives us an edge for those borderline FBS prospects that come out each year.

I do understand what you are saying though AZG, kids from high profile schools are going to get more opportunities than kids with equal or better talent at lower profile schools. Getting 4 or 5 commits from one school is an awful lot, but if you can get a few of those as partials and walk ons, I have no concern over it.

If we got JJ playing at QB I will not worry.

New offer...

Lynden is the 2-time 2A champ in Washington. I watched Lynden play twice this past season and in my opinion (no coaching experience here, just a football fan who's watched a lot of high school ball) Vis could have started and excelled with any high school football team in the State.

Another WR, WTF? I really concerned we will have some WR's from 2012 defecting. There is no reason in the world to have this many WR's on any college football roster

Who is leaving us?

The same thoughts ran through my head as well, but if the staff is following the get the best athletes possible theory, Vis is a good one to get. I hope that none of our current receivers plan to leave. Despite the depth of the Griz O Line, I like the big guys and would be really happy if a couple 6'5" 260+ guys turn up on signing day, but I'm not holding my breath.
