2013 Griz Football Class Signed (24)

I think we have some damn good young talent at WR. Just need a QB that's in sync with them an can get the ball down field.

Do you think that may be because we had little talent at either position?

Too little experience to know their talent. It is hard to break in inexperienced WR's, and inexperienced QB's. I really do hope, no matter the coaches, we dedicate a lot of time on getting them in sync with one another. It was not there all year in 2012, no matter who the qb was. Even a worse sign, we did not establish a go to guy, again no matter who the qb was.

These groups will have to dedicate many hours together in the offseason running patterns to improve last season.

I agree. I believe there was talent at the WR position, however, it is hard to see when QB's struggles all year to find them and make good throws. Look at Ellis Henderson. Many times he would beat his man and be overthrown by 5 yards.

Hopefully, the discussion is moot. If Gustafson becomes the starter at qb and with Mick recruiting wr talent, we should see a real improvement.

Mike Tate has committed to Eastern. Hope Sammie Long joins Marquin Russell as a Griz!

Heard long has narrowed it down to Wazzu, Eastern and Colorado State

He visited Idaho this weekend. He will visit CSU next weekend, and Eastern on the 25th, according to ESPN and Scout. I haven't seen anything saying WSU has offered...UM, Idaho, Eastern, CSU.

Bellevue Football ‏@BellevueFB
'10 Captain&State POY Kendrick VanAckeren has committed to the @UMGRIZZLIES !!! Great pick up for the Griz. Congrats K2!Go Bellevue! #family

UM lost 12 seniors...

With JJ, Poole and Hayden it could be as high as 15 scholorships.

By my count (with partials) UM is at 11 verbals right now, so we can expect 2 more.

I think UM will "hold" back 2 schollies for spring transfers.

And I dont think we know about all the players that are current griz that wont be in the fall.

So everyone has an opinion, but I will throw mine out there. Based on need and ability I think UM will try and add a OL and a DL player to the list. UM can always use good CB and Hayden left so a TE is in the works. I love Carlson and Lomax, but is that a need this year?

Also JJ Husar (Blown knee) and Kendrick Bourne (Life change) would be great additions and stories to add to this class.

Sammie Long would be a GREAT sign, but geez how many WR does UM need? or are we about to see a purging of last years WR crew?

MY WISHLIST
1-DL- Matt Sommer 6'5" 290 (West Salem) Salem, OR (+Wyoming Idaho & PSU)

***Sammy Long Update***

Here is what we know about the uber-talented Sammie Long – the Lakes High receiver was the University of Washington’s first commitment for the 2013 recruiting class.

He gave his word to the Huskies last March. That is a long time for a recruiting marriage to hold up between prospect and college coach, one bound only by a 10-second oral agreement.
The status of that commitment as of today? Lots of uncertainty.

* Said Lakes High coach Dave Miller, Long still holds the scholarship offer from UW coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff in hand, but conceded that the senior is not only being recruited by others (Colorado State, Montana, Idaho, Eastern Washington, Utah), but he is looking elsewhere as well.
* And from the Huskies’ end, their lack of interaction with Long or his family has spoken volumes to the recruit and his coach.

“A month ago, I got Sarkisian to give me a call,” Miller said. “His comment is they would honor the offer, but that they had gotten some guys in this year that they normally would not get in, and have recruited around (Long).”
Moving to the forefront is trio of California receivers who are consensus top-50 recruits at that position nationally – Demorea Stringfellow (Moreno Valley, Calif.), John Ross (Long Beach, Calif.) and Darrell Daniels (Oakley, Calif.).

Suddenly, it is Long who has been left out of the loop. He has not set up an official visit with the Huskies – and quite possibly won’t.

“I have been in this business a lot longer, and told (Long) if they have not called you for a visit, you are not being actively recruited by them,” Miller said. “I told him that I would not wait around.”

Long has already visited Montana, and is expected to take at least three more visits – presumably to other schools who have offered him scholarships (Eastern, Idaho, Colorado State).
As for the future, Miller isn’t sure how this will all shake down.

“This does not mean he is not going to the UW, but that he has not been recruited by the UW the last three or four months,” Miller said.

If we added nothing more than the fist two guys on this list I'd be thrilled with this class. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

We can see the excellent results of some very hard work by Mick and his staff. The concentration has been on skill players on they are getting exactly what the doctor ordered. Now, some of those Big Sky opponents that had written off the Griz, prepare to play some football. That means you state college!

Until you guys get a QB I don't think too many BSC teams are shaking in their cleats. A huge weakness was exposed in 2012....all us Cat fans hope (please, please Mr. Delaney) Smithwickjingleheimerhan gets the starting job locked down in '13......and then Feet-of-Stone Gustafson can come in to save the day when production goes South...the Cat front seven will be licking their whiskers!!!!
