When I saw the most recent list of commitments, in a year with few scholarships to give, I saw no offensive or defensive linemen! How many running backs do we need for God's sake? Games are won/lost in the trenches. I think it is a big mistake to fail to recruit O and D linemen every year.
This

     The coaches stated objective this year was to get "More Athletic". And that is what they are doing...

While Its true that the Griz only lost 12 seniors, and the TE that transfered to Oregon and I bet there will be others that are granted release. (Also, if JJ is gone +1) Remember this stuff can be cut throat. The Ath are only given a one year scholorship and after that each year is re-evaluated, so expect some names to be gone this spring/summer.

Currently UM has 10 known verbals, BUT:
Morales is a prefered walkon (0)
Delaney is a partial (1/4)
Schye is probably a partial (1/2)
I am guessing that Nico Graham (1/2) and Josh Janssen (1/2) are also partials. (Missoula kids)

That leaves (5) Simis (QB), Van (RB), Nguyen (RB), Rogers (WR) and Russell (CB) as Full-ride schollies.

Remember FCS schools have 63 full-ride scholorships but can use partials to get up to a total of 85 scholoshiped players.

IE you could have 63 full-rides or
50 full-rides and 26 half schollys (total of 76)

So that means that UM's verbal list could be at 7 scholorships and still have atleast 7 left to give.

BTW Delaney scholorship was for books... I think that counts as a 1/4 scholly.

:!: :!: :!: AMEN TO THAT :!: :!: :!: (to the above sentence I made larger)
I've been disappointed at UM's "athleticism"...I'm glad the coaches have identified that problem as well.

Really Good post, Paytonlives! :thumb:

I must say the coaches seem to be doing a great job recruiting kids this season. I am excited about the guys coming..........Good job so far!

The Grizzlies lose only one starter on the offensive line in left guard Jake Hendrickson. “Other than that, we’re intact,” Delaney said. “(Former left tackle)Trevor Poole’s situation is still up in the air, but right now, he’s still suspended from the football team.”

Delaney expects either Jordan or Logan Hines to replace Hendrickson. Left tackle John Schmaing, who started at left tackle following Poole’s arrest returns, as do center Kjelby Oiland, right guard William Poehls, and right tackle Danny Kistler Jr. Backups Samson Kaleikini and the Hines twins join a number of offensive linemen who redshirted this season with Clint LaRowe, Ben Weyer, Devon Dietrich, Max Kelly and McCauley Todd all adding depth.

Who is gonna block for all of these athletic players?
You do know we have 8 freshman on the offensive line right? And plus 3 or 4 of them redshirted this year.

Yes, I understand that. But, there is always attrition, some don't ever work out, and then the most important reason is that you do not want to be starting 3-4 seniors on the line in a few years, meaning that you will have to totally re-tool your line the next season. A wise ex-college coach once told me that the secret to having success year-after-year is to always have at least starters (or at least players who played significant minutes) back on your line every season.

By not recruiting a single O or D linemen, it could cause some issues with experience, or requiring us playing kids who we would rather red-shirt, etc. If the poster who stated that we might still have some available scholarships left is correct, I sure hope we land at least one D-lineman and one O-lineman.

Is the assumption that the coaches are not recruiting offensive line positions? That probably is not the case. Coaches and schools are not the ones releasing the names of recruites right now.

Chris Parker really flew under the radar to GRIZ fans. Nobody even hinted on him. I love it when a recruit escapes the fans. Where were the insiders on this one? Welcome to GRIZ NATION Chris and family.

Goes to show how those updates are not done some times. We beat out some good schools for him.

Does anyone have any info on; Marq Rogers 6'4" 200 (Fort Wayne Corcordia HS) Fort Wayne, IN?

It looks like his relative Mike Rogers is going to Bowling Green.

There was a boat load of information on him on the Marq Rogers thread when he 1st committed to the GRIZ. He is a good Basketball player too.
