Here's three guys I found via ESPN's Griz Recruiting page that are reported to be "considering" UM
PLAYER POS LOCATION HT WT STARS GRADE SCHOOL

Albert Havili

Federal Way High School 6'3'' 240

Joey Zakrajsek

Havili was on his recruiting trip with Marquin Russell< Sammie Long and Mike Tate a couple of weeks ago. Also found out the Griz offered a WR from Milwaukie Oregon Kendrick Bourne dont have a website but heard he had an offer.

Anybody that subscribes to Rivals or Scout, what are they saying about Michael Carlson? I have a couple of contacts in Washington, and said, he opted not to take a visit to Bozeman. Maybe the Cats pulled the offer with the signing of McQueary. IDK. He's a beast though and would be a huge get for the Griz, especially since they didn't get the other safety/athlete they really wanted in McQueary.

PRESEASON REPORT ON CARLSON (He played OLB this season for a 14-0 top 5 team in USA)
The Bellevue football team is loaded on both sides of the ball and are once again the prohibitive favorites to win another 3A State Championship. One player hoping to help lead the way on the defensive side of the ball is S Michael Carlson and Northwest Elite Index caught up with him recently to get the inside scoop on how things are going this offseason…

At 6’2″, 205 pounds, Carlson is a good-looking athlete and he was very productive from his safety spot last season posting 42 tackles and two interceptions, while helping to lead the Wolverines to their fourth-straight state title.

“Last season was a lot of fun, but we know what it takes to win and you have to put what you did last year behind you and start looking forward,” Carlson told NEI recently. “We’re already lifting five or six days a week, working out together, running, working on plays and stuff like that.

“Me and the rest of the guys who will be seniors organize a lot of that stuff. We want to go out on top and we’re not used to ending our seasons with a loss, so that is a big focus for us this year — go out on top again.”

On the recruiting front, Carlson doesn’t have an offer yet, but he is getting a lot of interest from some Ivy League schools as well as some Pac 12 programs.

“I’ve been hearing the most from Washington, Washington State, Oregon State and Arizona State so far and a few of the Ivy League schools,” Carlson said. “Yale has been on me a lot and they want me to come out to their camp so I’m definitely going to do that, and I will probably visit a few other schools while I’m out there. Other than that, I’m not really sure right now, but I know I want to hit some other camps and just get out and compete and workout and show people what I can do.”

With his outstanding size, 4.5 speed and smarts, Carlson is a player to keep an eye on this summer as schools get a long look at him and really see what he can do on the field. He is a sure-tackler and he’s very physical at the point of attack. He also plays the all-important free safety spot for the Wolverines and helps get his teammates lined up correctly.

We will have more in the coming weeks and months on Carlson as he progresses through the 2012 off season.

QB Makena Simis 6'2" 185 (Capital HS) Boise, ID

I like what I see in this young QB!

Just looked up Simis' 2012 final stats in the Idaho Statesman and he had a great season.

http://media.idahostatesman.com/smedia/2012/12/10/16/32/InPqQ.So.36.pdf
Montana landed the 6-foot-2,
200-pound senior in June, and
he finished his senior season in
style. Simis completed
180-of-263
passes for 2,240
yards, 24 TDs and
seven interceptions.
He also
added 535 rushing
yards and eight more TDs. “A
fierce competitor,” Mountain
View coach Judd Benedick said.

Watch the offense that Capital High of Boise runs. It is very much the same as we ran with Robin here. This kid is the coaches son and is pretty football smart. I think he brings a lot of intangibles. He can throw the ball accurately, can run and I like the fierce competitor aspect that he brings to the table. I hope he honors his verbal commitment. He will be interesting to watch to see how he fares.

The fact that he is athletic and threw for 68% completion percentage (a lot of downfield throws) says a ton for me.

You think that he is actually that good? he runs around and gets everybody to come up field and his guys blow by the defensive backs as they're running towards the line of scrimmage. It's easy to complete 68% of your passes when guys are wide open. There's no way he will be able to run around like that in the big sky. If you honestly think that you're kidding yourself. The 3 guys we have right now are all head and shoulders better than him.

I don't know how good he is and none of us will know until fall ball. We have never signed a quarterback to a scholarship that we didn't could play. They are all stars in high school. However from what I have seen and have heard I think he could be pretty good. The proof will be when he shows up.

I moved Marqin Russell to CB based on...

Lakes High’s Marquin Russell likens Missoula, Mont. to his former hometown – Florence, Ala.
To go play football at the next level, he essentially has chosen to go home.

Russell, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior, gave Montana an oral commitment over Idaho on Wednesday night.
Recruited as an athlete, but projected to head to the Big Sky Conference program as a cornerback this summer, Russell said Montana had shown great interest in hims since the Northwest Elite football camp last June – and the relationship grew from there.

“We had been talking off and on, and kind of in the middle and near the end of my season,,” Russell said.
Russell made his official visit to the Grizzlies last weekend.

“I really enjoy the town. I like the people and atmosphere,” Russell said. ” The thing that got me, everywhere I went, in every building I saw a football picture. It seems like the people knew we were football players, and they welcomed us.

“It reminded me of my home in Alabama. … We had a little college, but it wasn’t as big this college town.”

Lakes coach Dave Miller said he could see Russell playing in the secondary, if that doesn’t work out, move to slot receiver.

Payton or anyone else,
I had read earlier that the Horner kid from CMR is a possible candidate at receiver for the griz. Anyone know if we have any type of offer to him? I saw him play some hoops the past few weeks, and the kid is an athlete. Could be a Bagley type receiver, except I think he is a little taller and seems a touch more athletic than Bagley. With his height, I could actually see him as a Hardy like tight end.

Not bad considering he tore his ACL 7 games into the season:

Desert Ridge RB J.J. Husar out for season with torn ACL
24 OCTOBER 2012 KYLE ODEGARD
The knee injury to J.J. Husar was worse than originally thought.

Desert Ridge’s star running back will miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, he said Wednesday.

Husar suffered the injury two weeks ago against Mesa, but a preliminary diagnosis thought it was only an MCL sprain and he would be back for the state quarterfinals. However, a specialist examined the injury on Tuesday and determined there was a tear of the ACL.

Husar transferred from Basha to the Jaguars after last season and led the team with 106 carries for 1,068 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season. Desert Ridge is seeded second in the most recent power points but this injury deals a significant blow to their title chances.

“It sucks,” Husar said. “It’s not like I was here (at Desert Ridge) four years. I was here nine months and only got to play seven games.”

Husar said he will have surgery Friday and begin rehabilitating the knee. He plans to play collegiately next season.

“The plan is to heal it now and get it back to normal, or hopefully even better than normal,” he said.

The injury will likely put more emphasis on twin brothers Tarek and Taren Morrison in Desert Ridge’s offense. Tarek is the team’s quarterback and Taren was the backup running back behind Husar.

Even with the season ending prematurely for him he finished with 1,068 yards on 106 carries (10.0 yards/carry) and 14 touchdowns:

Same high school as Griz running back Joey Counts. I wonder if the Montana offer still stands for him.

1) Why are you being a c@ck Gobbler?

2) Yeah he could be good.

3) That's usually what happens when your receivers run great routs, get open, and your QB hits them.

4) Of course "there's not way he will be able to run around like that in the big sky"......Idiot.

5)Simis > SSH....... already
Simis < TM in running the ball
Simis > TM in passing.....this cannot be argued, and it isn't even close.
Comparing Simis to Berzerker is a moot point because Berzerker never got a fuck!ng chance.
I like Gus so far

I leave JJ out because.......well just because I don't see him coming back.

Assuming all 5 QB stick around for 2013 it should be a good battle, and should boil down to Gus, Berzerker, and TM.

Simis should RS
SSH should move on if he wants playing time.

Sammie Long (a UW Verbal) and Marquin Russell both from Lakewood Washington visited UM this weekend. Both are WR!

I guess the coaching staff is focused on making UM's WR much better... gotta wonder (as someone did in earlier posts) who is leaving UM...

It's painfully obvious UM needs more explosive WRs. Look at EWU, their WRs were a major reason for their semi-final run...and damn-near national champ appearance. UM's 5-6 record can partially be blamed on UM's lack of explosion at WR. :twocents: (Not to sound like "I told you so", but I cried all pre-season and season that losing and not replacing Jabin Sambrano was going to hurt...and it did)

I wouldn't worry too much about who is all-state, etc. That can be a pretty political meeting when they are picked. I have actually been in on a couple of all-conference and all-state meetings.

Kind of like watching "Real Housewives of Montana". Lots of giving snide compliments to the other players, and then voting the other way. Quite entertaining really.

Extremely P O L I T I C A L.

Just like if your team has a losing record and you deserve 1st team recognition but you'll be lucky to get 2nd team.

We are giving a kid a scholarship who wasn't even Honorable Mention All-State? I've never seen the kid play or heard of him, so maybe he is worthy... Sits wrong with me though that Delaney is giving his grandson a scholarship when he really hasn't stood out at the HS level...

Delaney is as good as any MT HS WR I saw in 2012. I saw him and his other Hawk co-horts lose to state champion Butte High twice (Weyer once). Delaney was a weapon for Bozeman in both games. Covering his books is a SMART DECISION!

I know allot of people in the Bozo high school football scene, and have heard mixed comments on Delaney. Amazing the differences in opinion from guys I know and respect.

That said, why the limited touches if this kid was truly a weapon? I am not disagreeing with you at all, but that just doesn't make sense.

P.S. family connections aside

Not sure we had a qb who could sling the rock far enough down the field and with enough accuracy to take advantage of explosive receivers, our best WR this season was overthrown by 2-3 yards several times.
