...In the end, one major factor swung the decision to Montana.

“APR,” he said, referring to UM’s Academic Progress Rate. “I’m a student-athlete first and foremost and my parents feel the same way. Montana had the highest APR of the three schools, and the highest graduation rate.

“Those were the two main things that sold me. The football stuff, I can handle on the field.”

As I stated earlier, this young man has a good head on his shoulders. I'm very impressed with his corner skills, but even more impressed with his intelligence.

Very impressive article. I like this young man a lot! Griz Nation was great and winning national championships when it recruited and suited up men of high character and good skill. The emphasis on high character unfortunately slipped at times over the last decade, and I for one am SO EXCITED to see a return to recruiting not only good players, but good people. Thank you Mick and staff. Griz Nation is roaring back! Welcome Ryan!!

GREAT GET..Still need Bellevue's Micheal Carlson, but all-in-all, very promising class. And, I disagree with firm. I don't think this is a return to recruiting quality individuals that are good people off the field. In my nearly 30-plus years of following Griz football i think every coach has TRIED to recruit quality people. It doesn't always work out, but no matter how many off the field incidents UM has had, I don't think a single coach has set out to not recruit quality kids.

I agree hav, that every Griz coach has tried his best to recruit quality kids. It just seems that some were more willing to take marginal character players if they thought it would help to win, while I know some of the great Griz coaches would walk away from a great recruit if they thought he had character issues. I believe Mick falls in the latter category.

--UM lost 12 Seniors + Poole Scholly + Craig Scholly +JJ Scholly? = Possible 15. By looking at the list of verbals below UM is at 12.5 with 2 unknown amounts.

--I post this because in the last 4 years of doing this there has always been 1 or 2 signing day surprises. So UM is by no means done.

Also I have John Nyguen as wavering as some egriz posters have stated that he is looking for more scholarship help.

I also have Josh Janssen as unknown, ONE egrizer has posted that he is a full-ride, but that is very unusual for a home town kid.

The 5 star TE Curtis White, is aslo unknown because there has been very little scholarship info about him. (Is he on campus now?)

That is neat, but unfortunately it sounds like they are shopping for a new safety to replace Dahl. He's a hard-nosed player nonetheless.

Yeah they have been trying to replace him for a couple years, but he keeps winning out......testament to his toughness and will to succeed I say. He has a SB ring with the G-Men as well, so he has had a nice NFL career thus far...here's to it continuing :thumb:

RB/Ret Ari Morales 5'8" 165 (Bellevue HS) Bellevue, WA (Prefered Walk-on)

If were are able to land two more, I hope they are any combination of two of the folowing:

DL- Matt Sommer 6'5" 290 (West Salem) Salem, OR (+Wyoming Idaho & PSU)
DE- Antonio Zepeda 6'6" 240 (Camelback HS) Phoenix, AZ (+NAU & UNLV)
WR- Sammie Long 6'2" 190 (Lakes HS) Lakewood, WA (+Idaho, CSU and EWU)
OL/DT- Akeem Roller 6'4" 270 (Cretin-Derham Hall HS) St. Paul, MN (+E. Mich, W. Mich, ND, NIU)
LB- Michael Carlson 6'2" 206 (Bellevue HS) Bellevue, WA (+msu)
S-Connor Strahm 6'1" 210 4.5 (Henry D Sheldon HS) Eugene, OR (+PSU)
LB- Mitch Lomax 6'4" 230 (Lake Oswego HS) Lake Oswego,OR (+PSU)

I hope for a little depth for the DL. I think there is more need there than OL. But if we got arguably the two most talented, Long and Carlson, that would be just fine too! :thumb: On the other hand, a speedy safety and beefy LB like Strahm and Lomax would be awesome as well!

Hats off to the coaches for putting together an excellent looking class in a year many thought would be tough!

The 5 star TE Curtis White, is aslo unknown because there has been very little scholarship info about him. (Is he on campus now?)

I would assume that Curtis White is on a full-ride here. It wouldn't make very much sense for him to give up a free education at Oregon to come here to pay to play football. Who knows though.

He was injured and retired from football...

Believe his point is that Oregon was honoring his scholarship even though he quit playing football due to injury, hence the question "why would he transfer to play football at UM and foot the bill?"

I have a friend that wrestled for Oregon. We were talking football over the holidays and he brought up that his scholarship was a year-to-year contract. I have also read this year-to-year contract information on here. So it could suggest that Oregon no longer offered him a scholarship, especially if he "retired" from football.

VERY common for any player that suffers a career ending injury to have their scholarship honored despite being unble to play.

If you're injured, you keep your scholarship for the full 4-5 years. Trust me on this one.

I think we might get Zach Vis from Lynden Washington to, he visited last weekend and will visit UW on the 1st but he is only a preffered walk-on their and I think he has atleast a partial here. He put on his Twitter "Its been real Montana, Hope to see you soon enough Go Griz"

This is not always the case, and I know of injured athletes having their scholarship pulled, but most schools do honor the full 4-5 years in the event of an injury. My understanding is that Oregon had decided to honor curtis's scholarship until he graduates.
