2013 Griz Football Class Signed (24)

Added this to the first post...

"Below is a list of verbals and confirmed UM offers, but nothing is official until they sign on the dotted line. Also, just because they had an offer does not mean it is still in play. IE look at the WR spot 4 verbals and 6 other offers. Can some of these guys play DB... probably, but there is no way UM with a small class (between 12-17) is going to sign 10 WR's!!! Also, a verbal is not binding EITHER way. Most college coaches dont make a habit of pulling verbals, but you can't tell me that if UM recieved a verbal from a 4 star WR that they would not ask another verbal to look elsewhere. Again this is not a good habit (HS coaches have long memories) but it does happen!"

Mick and staff are doing the right thing by recruiting skill position players. Many of our current starters wouldn't be playing for several of the other Big Sky teams.

Spanky and Hav, you are both off...the problem was not so much talent at WR but QB play and play calling. You will see next year.

It makes sense that our passing game struggled. Inexperienced QB's+ Inexperienced WR's+new OC=inconsistent passing. I honestly feel the talent was and still is there, and will get only better. How can it not with so much youth? Very few games were the WR's and QB on the same page. Considering the combination of factors, the yardage and PPG were enough to win more games. I have feeling the passing game will be much better this year, just from experience alone, no matter which QB we have directing the offense or what offense we run.

Got to give inexperience time to mature, not only at WR and QB, but Defense too. The players and coaches have a year more of experience, which will be beneficial. Give it time folks!!! :thumb:

Hav....please allow me to answer in this fashion: Which of our starters at WR, DB or QB would have started for Eastern Washington this year?

in keeping this "real",,i believe it would be hard to argue with spanky on this one...we need to upgrade...

Spanky--you first said for Big Sky Conf. teams and now you changed it to EWU. EWU was loaded at WR. Ellis Henderson should and could start for any FCS team. Grizrules is right, the Griz WRs are young but have talent. Walcott and Naccarato (sp) are going to be studs. Time will only tell. Let's talk next year this time to see who is right. Same with the Griz corners---young but talented. However, I was only talking about WRs in my post, not defensive backs.

Serious question: How do we REALLY know what we have at WR when we didn't have a QB who could get them the ball more than 7 yards down field?

Personally, I would think Henderson, Gratton & Saylor could start on any BSC team.

Ellis Henderson could start for ANY team in the Big Sky. As for EWU, yes, they have three great WR's. But just because one team is loaded it WR doesn't mean another team's receivers aren't good. I think it's more a credit to EWU than it is a dis to the Griz. But then again, some Griz fans are so ego-centric, they think that Montana should have the best player in the FCS at EVERY position. And that's just not reality.

These same fans also think we have the most talented team in the Big Sky EVERY SINGLE YEAR. This is simply not true

A few players are going from wr to CB, idk who yet. The Marshall kid is coming to be a rb. I doubt we get a qb. And a atleast 2 recruits are suppose to be possible safety's. That's just the little but of info I got :/

Are you aware we already have a HS QB from Idaho committed?

granitegriz....the last time I checked, Eastern Washington was a Big Sky team? How about MSU or Cal Poly....or North Dakota? My comments apply to skill players such as QB, WR and DB.

Spanky, your big mouth said Griz skill players wouldn't start for "several Big Sky teams". EWU is not several Big Sky teams. And yes Ellis Henderson would start for most, if not all Big Sky teams. So does that answer your question ispankymyself? :thumb:

nonsense, wise guy. ok, which other skill players would have started for....let's say the top 5 teams in the Big Sky?

I am starting to agree with you but my main point was that you are writing off Haynes, Walcott, and Naccarato too early. Also, I would say Canada and Counts have what it takes to help win a NC. Though I am all for filling these skill spots, but safety should be priority. Then look at what happened to MSU when you don't have an offensive line...need all the pieces.

Spanky it is too early in their careers to judge their ceiling of each one.
How many BSC teams had a 1st year head coach, new oc, inexperienced qb's, and inexperienced wr, and lost their expected starting qb over no fault of their own?

It is impossible to judge these guys this early. Granted the results were disappointing this year, but not because of their talent. They need time to get on the same page, and maybe Rosenbach was not very good at getting these guys on the same page. Judge these guys after their JR years, for a fair talent evaluation. :thumb:

mtgrizrule....I know you are correct. I'm frustrated because so many teams in the conference have passed us and we have such horrible leadership in Main Hall. I have bitter memories of the last time this happened and the years it took UM to build a football program and now.... Further, I am thankful for Mick. Yes, he made many mistakes this year, but he has had the courage to stand up and be our coach in difficult times.
granite....I do believe we have had a lapse in successful recruiting, for whatever the reasons. Hopefully, our coaches will have a banner recruiting year!
