LOVE Shavarez Smith :!:

He sets up his defender (for failure) extremely well on his routes, is incredible with YAC, and is like a Dick Butkus MLB when he blocks...LOVE this kid!

With Brekke (the states most "athletic" player considered by many) signing EARLY (the summer before his senior year), GRIZ recruiting is in fantastic shape.

Brekke said, "It just seems right in Missoula." And "I think the coaches think a lot of me, and I hope they do." "there are 4 positions I could play, we don't know which one yet, I just want to be on the field."

Brekke said, "I am just very thankful and very happy."

Brekke seemed like an incredibly nice and humble young player. Should be a very good one!

GREAT ADDITION :D
Gunnar is a STUD. Looks very fast (and little) on the field with pads. Watched him play twice last year against West. He was unreal in the State Championship game. He has a swagger to him on the field too. Don't mistake having swagger (confidence) for having a poor attitude. Brekke is an outstanding get for the Griz. Might have been the best player in the state last year not named Caleb Kidder or Brady Gustafson. I really hope Delaney and Co. play him at RB he has such great vision and burst and can make tacklers look stupid.

Saw Brekke last weekend when Capital came to the Mining City and got beat by BUTTE 42-28.

Brekke again might be the best player in the state however this year not named Dallas Cook. :thumb:

I agree with you on Brekke's GREAT VISION and BURST. He sets up his blocks very well, and then he's GONE for 6. He's a natural with the ball in his hands, and is very dangerous on offense, for sure! He's a very, very good player.

I also think he's a great CB. (shut-down type)

Austin Baird commited to Portland State. Its on Northwestprepreport.com

Portland State getting better athletes than UM?

Baird is a former HS teammate of #2 for the Griz....Bairds coach said Barid is the best WR he has ever coached.

Does anyone know if the Griz are looking into the Saraceni kid from Senior? The kid is a beast. State champ in the 100 and 200 and he has one solid frame. His combination of size and speed reminds me of Lex. He already has over 1,000 yards rushing after just five games this season.

Agreed, Saraceni is a beast...great speed, size and desire!

He and Brekke are my favorite RB's in the state. (Haven't obviously seen them all, but...)

How many free schollies will um have this winter?

I believe the # is around 14-15 unless there are defections.

and... depending on the NCAA inquiry... could be somewhat less. and... how many recruits will "bail" because of all the crap going on this year withing the team.... something to think about...

If major violations are found by the NCAA, loss of scholarships would not effect the size of this years class. They would be enforced, at the earliest, on the 2014 class.

Doesn't look like any recruits have "bailed"

I spoke with McQueary last year at the HIT. He said he's always wanted to play for the Griz, but at least at that time, they had not contacted him. He said MSU showed mild interest at that point and admitted that he'd talk a scholly from MSU over a walk-on with UM. But he also said he's keeping all options open as he loves hoops too.

Well I know that he has a scholly offer from both school's, so I would imagine UM has been in contact with him. At least I hope they have.

PT, I guess I thought when I mentioned the HIT people knew when it was, so I should have been more clear. The HIT, where I spoke with him was back in March and that's when he told me that he had yet to be contacted by Montana. Obviously, things have changed since then if he has a scholly offer from UM on the table.

Haha no, no, I understand what you were saying. I was just saying that he has since been offered so I hope that UM has been in contact with him. They should have been in contact with him earlier IMO, but it is what it is. I still think he'll be tough to pull from MSU. Two of his good friends play there, and that seems to make a difference.

I believe McQuery kid is better than any safety we have on our roster right now. I think he has a huge upside and would love to have him as a griz.
