2012 Griz Football Recruiting Class/ Summer Transfers

I was wondering what happened to that kid. MSU offered him pretty early, then he dropped off the radar. He could be a great pick up...especially for a walk on.

Thank you...weve got thick skin. I appreciate everyones opinions in-fact thats what we like about the school/city people are passionate for thier Griz and really as a fan or player thats all you can ask for. To answer your question hes played all over the field, QB, WR, Slot, RB, Db, PR, KR. At this level I agree he fits in at slot, which is another reason he decided on Montana...most schools wanted him as a DB and he is alot more comfortable with the ball in his hands and Montanas offense is perfect for him. I dont want to sound out of line here, but I wouldnt be suprised if he was on the field at somepoint this season.

@wtfg
MSU offered him early but basically withdrew once he got injured. They did not make that thier official reason, but it was obvious. But things happen for a reason, and now that he is on his way to Missoula he couldnt be happier.

Looks like a great get. I was wondering what position he was slated to play and I think slot seems perfect for him. How tall is he?

Welcome to Griz Nation! I'm a huge fan of walkons, they have been a core component of the Grizzlies success. How much did you guys know about UM and what went into the decision to become a Grizzly? Again, welcome, your son looks like he will be able to contribute and hopefully able to work himself into a scholarship.

To be honest we didn't know much about Montana.
He was offered by 4 schools, one of which was MSU. When he started researching the programs that were interested he basically boiled it down to two schools and MSU was one of them. But when he got injured MSU backed off. But at that point I think he was set on Montana, it gave him the college experience without the distraction of the bigger/party schools. After last seasons playoff games against sam houston he asked me to try and contact UM for a scholorship. But at that point they didnt have scholorships left so after some thought walking on was the plan. After visiting this weekend he is very happy how things worked out. He loves the offense, the city, the environment.

Wow this kids looks like a heck of a player, Next big walk-on for the Griz. hope he earns a scholarship> once again MSU loss is our gain.

Poetic Justice...that would be awesome!! :thumb:

Since this is slowly developing into a cat/griz thing, let me just add a little perspective...

MSU only had 10 (or so) scholarships to offer, and ended up not signing a single Wide Receiver in the entire recruiting class.

UM signed 24 new recruits this year...3 or 4 (depending on where Ellis Henderson winds up) were receivers.

It's difficult to say that MSU really snubbed the kid when they didn't sign a single WR, yet UM had many more scholarships to offer and signed multiple receivers ahead of Stallone.

That said, it's always an uphill battle for any walk-on. I hope your son performs well, ends up getting some money, and most importantly has an enjoyable college experience and obtains his degree.

Why have you and ilovecats been so level headed lately. You're really starting to get on my nerves!

I appreciate the MSU insight, but he was not being recruited as a receiver, he was being recruited as an athlete/Db...as with most schools that he was talking to. As a sophomore he was a pretty good DB he started 5 games and averaged 7 tackles a game @ FS. But regardless of why he is proud to be a Griz...so he is quickly learning that beating MSU regardless of the motivation is a top priority. As a walk-on he will have a tougher road than the "scholarship" athletes but I have no doubt he will earn the respect of the coaching staff fairly quickly.

And for the record, MSU signed a DB in their recruiting class.

But, I'm sure UM has done the same in the past and may have done the same if in MSU's shoes. I'm just hoping their loss is our gain. He could have chosen to walk on at MSU, but he didn't. Here's hoping he joins the long list of walk-ons who have joined the team, became major contributors, and earned scholarships.

I was not so sure about his size, and speed is hard to judge on video. Good to hear he has solid size, and great speed. He played against some damn big kids, based on that video.

What really stood out to me was his quick decision making, reactions, field vision, and awareness. A mix of Sambrano (speed), Nguyen (cuts), and Reynolds (field vision, and awareness).

In this fim he was a junior, approx 5 7" 170lbs, ran a 4.65

He put on quite a bit of muscle, in-fact he had the 3rd highest squat on the team @ 392.

Hopefully he can stay healthy and earn some playing time.

Hope to see you all out there for the season opener!
