2008 Recruiting List

it is quite clear to me that the griz are going to need to get way better recruits than listed above if they are going to compete with georgia and usc. the guys listed so far are all too slow.

I could be wrong...or they had someone else holding on the play I recall thinking Stap looked athletic ands quick.

I can't disagree with you regarding his D-I ability as a QB (in fact look at the now locked smack fest thread that was about why the Griz can't get the best QB's when recruiting against fellow BSC teams) however if he is not going to play QB, they need to find another way for him to get ont he field.

Not to :deadhorse:

I don't believe anyone wanted any of our QB's except Montana or MSU, who wanted Selle. (supposedly Wyoming was in the hunt for Selle?)

yo man, you guys gotta slow down - the holder is one of the three most important positions in the griz offense. it goes 1. place kicker; 2. long snapper; 3. holder

stapp has more than earned his scholarship, and done it the right way - on the field.

Noticed an update on scout.com:

Mike Cummings a 2 star WR will be in Missoula on the 19th: http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=2821331

Also Steven Jackson a 2 star RB has also had offers now from CSU and NAU. On the top of the list it says he runs a 4.6 40 but on the bottom they say a 4.69 40. http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=2927474

Re/Max,

I posted some vids of Cummings on the other recruiting thread. He looks pretty impressive, as does his QB.

It would be a good to see him in the conference regardless. I wish I could provide more info on the kid but I don't have many sources with the Denver -area schools. He's a 2 star recruit that played for a great high school program, that's all I know.

I missed that post, went back and just watched them, wow!

Reminds me of a cross between Ryan Bagely and Marc Marani, quick off the snap, taller than most DBs, good speed, very head's up and powerful runner - not afraid to get hit. Looks like he could easily play both ways, but looks like WR is his forte.

Looking at the clip where's he's #80 vs #9 (looks like Junior season as #80 and senior as #9 according to youtube). He really added some shifty-ness and the ability to beat defenders.

Hope we get him, darn good looking player!

Chaparral's QB is Spencer Stone, he'll be a senior next year, it'll be interesting to see where he comes out in the scout rankings, based on those videos it looks like he could definatley be playing college ball.

If he is legitimately sub 4.6 and 36" vertical then he could be a star in the Big Sky.

I don't think he is sub 4.6, but he runs good routes, catches everything, and his yards after catch is impressive. If you watch his vids, he has a nose for the end zone.

Not sure if this is already posted on one of the recruit threads, but looks like this kid is still looking at the Griz. He was 1st Team all class in CO this season after being named 2nd team last year.

I say that because it says in his profile that he ran a 4.59 40 time at a combine, which are usually electrically timed and very accurate. Most players report unofficial hand-timed 40's, which vary in accuracy. Electric times are usually slower. I wouldn't be surprised if he runs about 4.5 with a stopwatch.

Did you watch his videos and what are your thoughts on the QB he plays with?

By the looks of it that QB could be playing in the Big 12 or Pac 10 - very accurate, good scambler, made very good throws, and seemed to make real good reads of opposing defenses.

The QB is Casey Lytle, 6' 2" 190 4.6

Casey Lytle Link

I posted it earlier according to the box scores from Chapparal's season his name is Spencer Stone and he's a Junior...

I wouldn't call it a coup.

If he signs with UNC I would assume he wants to play close to home, in his home state, rather than go through a change and travel to another school in the same conference/division.

I understand someone wanting to be close to home, and that's got to be the reason why because otherwise I'm a little baffled why someone would chose UNC over UM based on coaches, facilities, fan base, national exposure, etc

QB recruiting must really be in the sh^ts if the staff is going all the way to Tennessee to look at an unranked one star with no offers. TN is probably the most expensive place in the country to get to from Montana. Just bringing that up since we're all so worried about the precious budget.

Well, Bobby's lack of ability to recruit at that position is well documented. If he's going to go down, he may as well go down in flames.

I would take Jeff Fisher's word over your ideology any day. Selle's talent YTBD, Bergquist has been good, Washington was not recruited, Swogger was not recruited, Larson walked on YTBD, Stapp only disappointment thus far. Your argument is weak!

Good post, I would say too that Stapp is also YTBD - he's not had much of a chance being 3rd string these last two years and in 2007 he was just coming back off a shoulder operation of some sort and wasn't throwing the ball through most of the summer & fall camp. 2009 will be interesting to see if he or Selle wins the starting job once Cole has graduated.

Well, Stapp hasn't seen the field because he is fourth string behind two freshman. There's a reason he hasn't played and it's because he's determined to be a lousy quarterback. He'll never start a game in his UM career, and doesn't even run the scout team. He's 4th string, and that's only because Hauck hasn't brought in a 5th QB yet. I don't know how anyone can say he's anything more than a complete waste of a scholarship.

I guess holding for the nations most prolific kicker is a complete waste?

I seen this kid play for the Colorado state championship, his team won. He's a very good looking player!!! He would live up to the tremendous safety (or LB) play we've been getting at Montana. I hope he signs with the GRIZ.

GO GRIZ

When that's the pinnacle of a full-ride scholarship player's career then yeah, pretty much a waste.

Don't get me wrong. If I were Stapp I would have definitely chosen a full-ride at Montana rather than paying my own way at Drake or San Diego. I don't blame him for choosing UM. I just think it was an error in judgment by Hauck and the staff.

Well, it looks like he does a good job of getting the ball into the hands of the best playmaker on the field. That's been ONE of the frustrating things the last couple years with Chambers being underused in 2006 and Allen in 2007.
