It was bound to happen at some point and unfortunately the collapse in the final 5 minutes at Eastern Washington is what did it, but for the first time since 1998 the Grizzlies are not in the top 25. 195 weeks. Think about that. It has been nearly 14 years since a Grizzly football team was not in the top 25. That is incredible and something that everyone needs to take a second and appreciate. This program has spoiled its fans like hardly any other program at any level.
But what that also means is that a new streak can and will be started, hopefully after the Grizzlies pummel Northern Colorado on Saturday. This team clearly has talent and if it can simply cut down on the number of turnovers going forward, will probably be returning to the playoffs. And if that happens, can guarantee no one will want to play the Griz come late November, early December.
All programs go through rough stretches. Florida State, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, Appalachian State..list goes on with storied programs that as recently as last year were not ranked in the top 25. UM will rebound from this, like those other programs have done. You don't spend 195 weeks in the top 25 and then suddenly become irrelevant in a span of five games. Let this season play out!
