I'm excited for this tonight, I'm planning to be there around 7:45 - 7:50 as I think 7on7 stuff will begin around then. For many of you this may be a first look at the team since the spring game, so here's a few things I'm going to be watching for tonight.
1. Watch Jordan Tripp play all over the field. If it's anything like I've seen the last two days he'll be playing DE, LB, and S at any given time. He rotates out of a base position and it's usually resulted in throw-away passes or the occasional interception.
2. Keep an eye on our young D-linemen. While Caleb Kidder has the hype around him the guy that's shown up even stronger has been Tyrone Holmes. Holmes wears #91 and unless he's out tonight I'd expect to see him starting with the 1st string opposite Zach Wagemann (#58). Caleb Kidder is #44. All three have been highly entertaining to watch, but Holmes has had the standout fall so far on the D-line.
3. I'm expecting a lot of success running the ball between the tackles. Josh Harris and I presume Alex Bienemann will be out, the interior 1st string line should have some success up the gut.
4. I'm hoping to see continued improvement from Trent McKinney to look through his options in the passing game. He's shaking the rust off and has shown daily improvement reading the field. That's not to say he's without mistakes, but I'm seeing good things from him.
5. Take note of our top 3 corners, these three have been covering WRs very well so far with limited error, Sean Murray (#3), Nate Harris (#11), and Anthony "Chief" Goodwin (#1). Also Josh Dennard (#14) and CJ Nelson (#18) have been showing promise.
6. I'm expecting more inconsistency from the center snaps.
7. Watch the wrinkle in the offense where Rosey brings in backup TE/RB Gavin Hagfors with the 1st string as a reserve blocker but also check-down pass option. Tends to work well in the face of a blitz.
8. Tonight I'm hoping to actually see more examples of kicking power from Harrison Greenberg and Chris Lider. Lider (#87) appears to be the #1 guy right now but I've only seen a handful of kicks from both and no kickoffs at all from either. (Greenberg is #94)
9. Also I'll be interested to see which one of the two young WRs that have been making plays continues to shine. Walcott (#2) and Naccarrato (#5) have been playing strong this early fall.
10. After yesterday I'm expecting the defense to win the day tonight. Usually after an off-day they come back with a vengeance. Yesterday coach Ty was furious with his team... I bet tonight they're going to be hungry to show the fans that they're ready for another dominant season.
