Out of curiosity sake, I went to Montanagrizzlies.com to compare stats from this year vs last year. After comparing stats, I honestly believe there is not a major difference coaching, but just shoring some minor things up. We are slightly down in steals and blocks on the defensive end. Also opponents 3% is up from .358 to .442. Offensively we are down in ppg, the biggest difference being FT%. We are 7% lower this year, roughly equating in about 2 points per game difference. 3 pt % is 3% lower, roughly 2 points per game difference. Rest of the team stats are very much in line with 05/06.
Improved shooting and slightly better perimeter defense are the biggest differences. If those things are improved slightly the GRIZ will be back!!! Looks like to me it is just a matter of shots falling for us offensively. Defensively, force the action more with traps and presses. Regardless of defense being ran make it a priority to defend the perimeter in the half court defense. If push comes to shove get Vanderjagt's 7 ft frame in there to defend the paint, in turn allowing perimeter defenders to roam out more. Secondly, team Martin and Ellis only when opponents have weaker shooters on the court. Better shooters can shoot over them.
Key to FT% is having Strait and Sharp work primarily on FT's. Those two alone would be huge this year. 3% we have the shooters, just a matter of them finding the consistency. These things certainly seem possible to turn 06/07 around. Just my opinion, take it as you will. I have included the stats below.
