WBB: 2023 Transfer Portal

Kailee Oliverson, a 6-4 forward from Twin Bridges HS, has entered the transfer portal. She originally signed with Nevada but ended up Northern State University, a D2 school in South Dakota. She's been pretty good her last two years, averaging about 15.5 PPG and 7.5 RPG. Will probably get some interest from smaller D1 schools.

Last game had 34 pts and 17 boards. Not bad. Has a boot on in her picture. Interesting.

Originally was going to University of Nevada at Reno but injuries (concussions?) got in the way, evidently. Was kind of disappointed that the LG didn't bother recruiting her back in the day:

Be a good decent addition to the LG for sure.

We need a player like this! Seems like most of what I hear in the wind are guard types (almost yearly) coming to the LG....think we a full up in that department!

Lisa Kiefer and Willa Albrecht into the portal.

Bartsch is now the only MT player on the roster with stats, except for Dick's 7 minutes.

Are there MT players committed for next year?

Due to injuries, we hardly saw Willa. I thought Lisa Kiefer was he most improved returning player - best to both - good people.

Next years roster will have:

2 Seniors (Gfeller/Marxen)
2 Juniors (Bartsch/Huard)
5 Sophomores (Pirog, Stump, Konig, Burton-Oliver, Dick)
1 RS Freshman (Wacker)
3 True Freshman (Donarski, Huard, Lincoln)
By my math, even with Gfeller returning, they have some scholarships to use with the departure of Keifer and Albrecht. I could see some definite dabbling in the transfer portal this year to help with depth at key positions. Probably have three or so scholarships available.

Sorry to see Lisa Kiefer go. Willa: I was surprised that she was kept two years ago. She has never looked like a D-1 plyer to me. And then injuries compounded her future as a Lady Griz.

Now, Holsignger has roster room to find more talented players.

Wacker is from MT, though she redshirted this year. Those who saw her early in practices were impressed IIRC.

Breanna Williams will be tough to keep home with Pac-12 schools after her.

Best of luck to both of them. If I'm Holsinger, I would do all I can to try to get Williams, otherwise, look out of state. The young lady in Bigfork is also a target, but from what I've been told, she is also getting a lot of out of state big school attention. From what I've seen, D1 might not be the best fit for the other Montana kids. Emphasis on "might not be."

These two leaving is not a big surprise--everyone wants playing time and they were not gong to got a lot. I thought Willa had great upside but injuries slowed her down and it will be interesting to see what offers she gets with her injury history.. There are a limited number of Div 1 level MT players this year. Williams would be a huge get but she is getting a lot of interest from Pac 12 and others. Girl from Roberts is a possibility as is girl from Bigfork. There will also likely be more transfers next year--with 3 very good players coining in. There will not be enough playing tine for everyone especially with a large group of guards.

Big, though unsurprising, Big Sky transfer news:

Which means she's on her way to TCU. Only fair. Coaches are free agents, why not players too.

Not overly surprised with these two transfers, Kiefer had some promise, but compared to other power forwards in the conference, we can do better. Willa, is the plain result of injury that I think largely interrupted her development/ performance. Willa prior to injury looked very good, in my opinion, strong, good player/floor vision, eye for the basket, belonged to the LG.

Macy’s sister, Lexi, has entered the transfer portal. I doubt she’ll give Montana a look, though.

Wow... Four Cyclones are transferring out of the program... after the Cyclones finished 3rd and won the Big 12 post-season tourney championship over Texas.

I doubt it as well. Her presence in the portal, while likely coincidental, suggests that there is a chance, however small that it is, that she'll consider playing in Missoula w/ her sister.

Can't keep a guy like me from dreaming about the potential for a huge impact transfer like this on the upward trajectory of the LG.

I heard the same thing about Macey Huard but she is coming here to play with her sister Haley. So, there is always a chance.

Also was involved in 'Track and Field,' insofar as the High Jump (HJ) with a best, apparently, of 1.60m or 5'3:"

I'd welcome her with open arms.
