Parity

I see several things that have led to more parity than ever before in college basketball:

--The reduction in scholarships from 15 to 13. No longer can big schools stockpile talent as before.
--The portal, which has allowed for great "free agency" among the players, enabling them to escape bad coaches and bad situations without sitting out a year.
--High school stars leaving early or even circumventing the draft altogether by going to the "G" League.
--The summer instructional camps and AAU leagues that were not available to high school players back in the day.

So what?

Expect to see more upsets at the Big Dance this year than ever before. And let's hope that one of them is the Bobs beating Kansas State. This would do wonders for the Big Sky conference. Remember, a rising tide lifts all boats.

The portal also allows transferring to get more playing time. I know you know that.

Not convinced this is a good year for 12 and downs. The biggest team capable of running, ORU, pulled the hottest team in the country for R1. Only mid majors who got favorable draws were Kent State and Furman.

Note the Bobs game against Kansas State is on CBS Friday night. (Eight point dogs.) That means their game will have a far higher viewership than any of the cable telecasts. I'll be rooting for them and hope they do the conference proud.

Smash that bet msu -8...hit it big and hard. K-State covers that 100/100 times.

Who doesn’t know ball? @mthoopsfan

Playing out nicely, with FD over Purdue (16 over 1) as the lead. We also had an 11 over 6. And we can add in games where the "underdog" made the favorite sweat – like Kennesaw State versus Xavier.

Really unfortunate for Kent State. Star player bumps knees in shoot around and plays injured. Goes 5-18 in a game they otherwise had a very good shot of winning.

And the beat goes on.

Another 1-seed (Kansas) went down to Arkansas. Only one point ... but that's all it takes. A third 1-seed (Houston) is down 10 points at halftime. They have plenty of time to come back, but that's basically a home game for Auburn (in Birmingham). We could end the day with just one: Alabama.

Last but not least, 15-seed Princeton pummeled 7-seed Missouri, 78-63.

Not all that surprising. At least one double digit seed usually makes the sweet sixteen, and usually one or two ones(1.7 on average) survive to the final 4. Still 2 ones alive.
