Griz have one of toughest schedules in FCS

Post by HookedonGriz » Thu Jun 13, 2019 3:02 pm

Heroes sports used some criteria to rank the teams who have the toughest schedule. They put the Griz at number 16. There are two other teams ahead of them in the big sky with Sac State and Southern Utah

I was told this was impossible as we were playing something like 6 D2 teams... :coffee:

One of the toughest schedules, but by far the toughest coaches.

Listening to opponents of scheduling FBS teams, most of our team will be out for the season after the Oregon game due to injuries.

Who are players we have lost while playing playing an FBS team? I can’t think of ANY. Football does not become more dangerous when you play a better team.

That’s correct, otherwise we’d have no players left after the last few years nor would the rest of the MVFC outside of NDSU exist either.

I cover this in another post but in the last 5 play up games going back to 2005, we lost Loren Utterbeck for a few games and our punter for the season in 2006. In the last 3 games (Tennessee, Wyoming, and UW) we haven't lost a starter for more than the next game and the Griz are undefeated in those next games. Of course I did all this work because I'm trying to show actual evidence to PlayerRep, which is a waste of time because "I never played the game".

Not to worry. No Griz ever gets hurt playing Oregon:

Injuries after Oregon game in 2005. 12 injuries going into the next week.

"The most important loss is linebacker Loren Utterback, a starter on the strong side. His father Brad confirmed on Tuesday that the 218-pound sophomore suffered a broken foot with around eight minutes left in the game. The Fort Benton product had surgery Monday, and will be out 6-8 weeks.

At Montana's weekly press conference, head coach Bobby Hauck noted 12 injuries, without giving specifics.

Hauck listed defensive tackle Alan Saenz, defensive end Mike Murphy, corners Quentin Jackson and Tuff Harris and receiver Jon Talmage as probable; safety Colt Anderson, defensive tackle Jesse Carlson and guard Jason Frink as questionable; and corner Chris Clark, running back JR Waller and Utterback doubtful; and safety Jake McCarthy, who was hurt on the opening kickoff, as out."

Covered this in another thread. 10 guys didn't play the next week, Utterbeck was the only starter. All of them played again that year except for Jake McCarthy. This is not unusal in a football game. By the way the GRIZ won the next week without those players and in fact won 3 in a row after the "bloodbath" against Oregon.

As Haslam continues to phase in his new easy schedule, such as Monmouth, Dixie State, we should win most of our games. As Haslam said, Dixie State has a great football tradition, thus, those games will be exciting.

Once again, it is terrible for a FCS school to schedule other FCS schools.

That is rough, don’t remember that many injuries. I should have clarified I don’t remember one guy we lost for the year in one of those games.

Wrong subtopic. This threads subtopic is what difference do cheerleaders make at a game. Please stay on the correct subtopic.

True the team will be very happy about winning a game, and being a Griz fan is about supporting the team and the players. Not about being whiny about satisfying some fans ego about who the opponent is.

A financial commitment of 63 full ride scholarships to play Division 2 type teams is of tremendous benefit to the university and fans. Actual Division 2 membership with a commitment of 36 full ride scholarships would be more practical for UM.
