I can only imagine the headline in the Sacramento B: Man puts family at-risk for poverty to follow stupid pipe dream.

Me thinks Taylor was on his way out of Utah, not necessarily by his own choice. Why else would you leave a $600,000+ a year PAC-12 coordinator's job and take a job which paid Sears $195,000 last year?

Easy, he wanted to be the boss. And this is official.

Many think SAC worked with Taylor on his contract to allow him to make the HC salary, plus the OC salary (he calls all his own plays) to get him close to $400k, not including incentives. If he turns around his hometown team, he’ll have much bigger offers ahead of him...

An interesting speculation, with a couple things in play here. He was drafted into the NFL as a QB (Jets) and has had good gigs as a QB coach, etc. Unless he's been a total dunce with his finances (sadly, a possibility), he should not be that much worried about money at this point. And, aside from the hefty (shall we say) taxes and cost of living in Cali, he could be making pretty good money, even with the "demotion." (Certainly way more $$$ than most fans.)

So I'm with those who think this is about this being a chance at the HC position. If he can turn around the Sac-State program ... How long before he might get an FBS chance? (Or maybe back into the NFL?)

It was announced as a 7-year contract. Guaranteed as I understand it. That's some nice job security.

I think the allure of the job was 2 fold for Taylor. Coming home and the challenge of doing something special in his home town. Many have believed that the Sac State football program is a sleeping giant. The metro area is well over 2M and the closest FBS program (Cal Berkeley) is 78+ miles away. If the program ever becomes a winner and can sustain it, the fan base could explode.

Also, Taylor is a known QB guru that has mentored many HS athletes in the area the past 10 years. He was the brains behind Folsom HS's offensive system and subsequent rise to State and National prominence the past decade. I believe every QB that he developed through their program has earned a scholarship. While at Utah, the Sac Metro area was his recruiting ground. He mentioned today that Sac Metro is the largest recruiting ground for the Big Sky. I'm guessing he's confident he'll be able to keep some of the local kids in town now. We shall see.

Seems like a bit of a surprise ... but you got to follow the money, and I doubt that Maine pays a ton.

"Maine's [Head coach] Harasymiak leaving for Minnesota staff"

Not much detail yet, so it's not clear how the coaching chain might have worked in this case.

Edit: More details in this clip:
https://bangordailynews.com/2018/12/20/ ... minnesota/

Excerpt:
Also on Thursday, James Madison University, one of UMaine’s Colonial Athletic Association rivals, announced that it had hired Black Bears defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman to fill that position with the Dukes.
Be interesting to see how Maine does next year with those key turn-overs in the staff.

Those same many have believed that for many, many years. Fullerton told us so.

The people who actually get paid for this sort of thing finally got on the ball:
http://www.fcs.football/cfb/story.asp?i ... m=&src=FCS

Adds, by my count, 17 more coaching changes at the FCS level. Some interesting points:
I thought the guy at Chattanooga was doing okay. But he wasn't fired, he was hired away by Akron.
The new JMU coach, Cignetti, was hired away from Elon.
Biggest surprise (for me) was McNeese canning a coach who had a 21-12 record. Expect much?

Matt Lubick out as UW receivers coach. I wonder if Matt Miller will get consideration.

List down to two, but then back up to three.
[Note (above) that Lehigh has filled their position. The new guy was not a Head Coach, so he doesn't leave a gap where he was.]

Temple has hired Rod Carey as their new Head Coach. Carey spent six years as Head Coach at Northern Illinois University.
https://owlsports.com/news/2019/1/11/ro ... oach.aspx

So now NIU is looking for a Head coach.
https://www.dailyherald.com/sports/2019 ... for-temple
DEKALB -- The sense of urgency from Northern Illinois Athletic Director Sean Frazier was palpable as he was clear-cut about his expectations for the new football coaching search.
There are reports, apparently from reliable sources, that Autry Denson will be the new Head Coach at Charleston Southern. He's currently running backs coach at Notre Dame. Still not confirmed by Chas So officials.

Morgan State is still looking.

Charleston Southern has made it official that Autrey Denson is their new Head Coach.
https://www.onefootdown.com/2019/1/14/1 ... otre-dame

Meanwhile, Temple’s new Head Coach, Ron Carey, “drafted” three of his assistants from his (former) Northern Illinois staff.
http://www.philly.com/college-sports/te ... 0115.html

The NIU search is just barely started, but they already have a list.
https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/c ... story.html

Morgan State is still looking, near as I can tell.

NAU totally screwed the pooch losing Thompson. Would have loved to see him come back to Montana.
