2022 and Beyond University of Montana Lady Griz Basketball Recruiting

Probably not of much interest to Lady Griz fans, but ESPN recently updated their rankings for 2023-2025 classes: http://www.espn.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/rankings/_/class/2023

I thought Macey Huard may have a chance to crack the top-100, but it seems to be mostly Power 5 commits.

Not sure how much of an option Devin Coppinger is, but she's No. 41 in the class of 2024.

Yeah, for real. I've been watching LG basketball, albeit periodically since whenever, and it's like, for the recruiting budget:

98 % recruiting budget towards football. 1.9 % for men's basketball. And .0000001 % for women's basketball. No wonder RSelvig had to get most, if not all, his recruits from the State of Montana. Where else could he do so? It's not like: https://wbbblog.com/arizona-womens-basketball-recruiting/3/ ...now is it?

Family has got to be happy she's so close to home. Hope she does well there (unless they're playing Oregon State!).

Does anyone know who her final schools were? Were any Big Sky schools in the mix? UM or MSU?

MT has some quality HS players coming up the grade levels as long as coaches know where to find it.

I'd be relatively surprised if she seriously considered UM or MSU. It seemed like Utah showed a lot of interest, possibly Washington and Oregon State too. She was very low-key about her recruitment.

Etheridge (former Northern Colorado coach) has been very, very good at WSU.

2024 is a really, really good class in Montana with Williams, Chirrick, Erickson, and a few others.

Utah and Boise State were her other contenders.

By a Erickson I'm assuming Teagan Erickson that plays for the North Country Mavericks (Saco-Whitewater-Hinsdale): https://www.hudl.com/profile/15493587/teagan-erickson

Interesting. She is also a high jumper that has gone 5'6."

From the convos we had today. Maroon is correct with Utah and Boise but MSU was also on that finalist list. Also heard Zags and a few other Pac 12s came in late.

Correct. She visited with Malia Ruud and Breanna Williams a few weeks ago.

Looks like 2023 commits Macey Huard and Macy Donarski took their visits to Montana recently:

Since MacKendra Konig was once part of the 2022 Biosteel All-Canadian, as well as Delaney Gibb and Toby Fournier: https://www.tsn.ca/canada-s-burgeoning-ballers-rosters-announced-for-2022-biosteel-all-canadian-basketball-games-apri-1.1774186 ...and some on that listing have committed to such as Maryland, Georgia Tech, Iowa St., Penn St., Arizona, Duke, Colorado, etc., etc., etc. The youngest one on the team was a 6'0" Syla Swords (Class of 2024): https://www.sudbury.com/pursuit/pursuit-sudburys-syla-swords-named-the-youngest-player-to-suit-for-all-candian-competition-5233670

Syla also has a younger sister, 6'1" G Savannah Swords (Class of 2026): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHpPpTqIyrU

A pair of recruit from Idaho visited last weekend: 2024 Avery Waddington and 2025 Shay Shippen. They were in Misssoula for the Elite is Earned camp.

Signing day isn’t too far away for the 2023 class. Aiyana Mitchell remains on the board, though I have no idea what schools she’s visited and is considering.

Sure do like Gabriella Kelley's game (Class 0f 2024), a 6'2" SG out of 'The City:'

And a 6'0' P/PF out of Liberal, Kansas (Class of 2027) by the name of Maddie Vickery is already getting noticed. Just how soon can a college program offer a scholarship to begin with?

Plus, this is an interesting page: https://prospectsnation.com/story/feature-player-session-montana But I think there could be a couple more that could be added.

Expecting that Adria, Macey, and Macy will sign at some point today or this week.

Aiyana Mitchell announced today that she will sign between Boston College, Vanderbilt, and Clemson.

Will be interesting to see if Holsinger tries to sign a big in the spring or waits for the portal.

Sydney Pierce ‘24 from Billings West committed! But to play volleyball for the Lady Griz.

This both are tall and athletic. Both are good at basketball and volleyball. I know the Lady Griz basketball have interest in both. Will be interesting to see how the younger one grows.

'OregonStatefan:' I was wondering if you've heard any recruiting on the LG front of the likes of Class of 2023 (State of Washington) as follows:

https://prospectsnation.com/player/claire-oconner
https://prospectsnation.com/player/ella-kaleta

...or Isabel Sullivan of Eastside Catholic or Ava Schmidt of Eastlake.

Since it seems those haven't committed yet and there are two more openings on the LG roster and the LG recruit around Washington, that is.

I guess Claire O'Connor is going to Gonzaga, Ella Kaleta to Portland State, Isabel Sullivan to Nevada and Ava Schmidt to NAU.
