china/ccp

this is a south china morning post article that details how the ccp under xi has been sabotaging the development of children into free-thinking individuals since he has been in power, especially in education. i think americans on either side of the political divide like to criticize 'the other party' for wanting to do similar things in our own schools and in other avenues of life. anyway, this article shows how the state tries to control the development of personal values, including ethno-nationalism, in the here and now. it is a good read: https://www.scmp.com/news/china/politics/article/3205309/chinas-intellectuals-restrictions-started-long-pandemic-and-will-continue-after-covid-over?module=lead_hero_story&pgtype=homepage

Argh, see this snippet from a Rogan podcast. You seem to be quite plugged in to what is going on over there. Do you think these comments are accurate, or overblown, or what?

ta shou de zhen de (he speaks the truth). i could give you specific examples of pretty much everything he said, using people i know personally. one aspect i didn't hear him discuss (maybe i just missed it) was the outflow of talent and cash. it pisses me off, and i suspect it would piss everybody on egriz off, but ccp members are moving their hard stolen cash to europe, and especially to the beautiful country, the u.s. (they call our country meiguo, which literally means beautiful country in mandarin). they are also creating anchors here by sending their pregnant wives to give birth to their children, so they will have u.s. citizenship, something that they then hide from the ccp. one of the main ways english teachers there stay afloat nowadays is by teaching women in early pregnancy how to pass immigration interviews. also, skilled people with talent are escaping, or planning their escape to the west. i could also give specific examples of both. i vehemently oppose the birth tourism industry bullshit, and argue with a couple people i know who have been involved in it, but one thing to remember is that the society is a very sick one, where lying to the government and finding ways around regulations is considered just a part of everyday life. my wife says the only way to change people's views and behavior is to take them out of china, and unfortunately she's right. 'cheating the system for personal gain' has become ingrained into the culture, especially under xi. on the other hand, if someone is skilled and part of the minority who have actual ethics, i don't mind helping them find the info they need to bring their talents here. we have a myriad of problems, and the people there are constantly pounded with propaganda about how 'awful' it is here, but these talented people are still determined to do the classical immigrant thing and flee, but without cheating the system. they are in the minority. i could go on and on, but i think you get the point :) .

Got enough of that shit already here, and, unfortunately many are members of Congress. The Party affilitation isn't 'D' or 'R', or 'I'......it's really '$.'

Edit comment: I didn't use the word 'poop.' I was more to the point. Big Brother is watching.

Thank you sir, I find all this very fascinating… and incredibly scary quite honestly. I don’t think the world understands what is about to happen, and what the global consequences of that will be.

no problem, and i agree that in general the world does not understand the way the ccp operates, and how it uses the vast worldwide ethnica chinese diaspora to try to influence events, mostly by way of threatening them and their family members still in china to do their bidding. i think asian countries, especially japan and taiwan, understand it best.

also, speaking of china, i see in the u.s. headlines that montana has a visiting spy balloon from there that the pentagon is just going to let float around: https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2023/02/02/chinese-spy-balloon-pentagon/ . personally, i'd be more concerned about the people they have on the ground, but that's me...

On a humorous note, the Fox affilitate in Billings reported the sighting at 60,000 feet, and quoted the Yellowstone County Sheriff as asking the local populace not to try shooting it down. Deer rifle shot at a 150 foot balloon FIVE MILES UP! WTF! Even it you had a .50 Cal with scope....duh! Who is dumber, the populace or the Sheriff?

60,000 feet is 11 miles up. as for who is dumber... tough question.

ha ha, iggy pop still has it... i like his version of china girl a lot better than bowie's. they wrote it together, but the it is about iggy pop's girlfriend, and other stuff. written in '74, it very much predicted the future.

tsai ing-wen, the taiwanese president, is visiting the u.s., which will surely get beijing's panties in a wad. considering their response to pelosi, is suspect more of the same... link is below. also, talked to some people in china about the tiktok clown's performance, and they clearly got treated to a bullshit propaganda line about his appearance, and how he did. some of them genuinely seem to believe that tiktok is an 'american company' (ha!), and that the ceo did a good job handling the questions he got. i watched his performance, he was pretty pathetic, and it was obvious he's just another ccp-loving guy, helping his government spread propaganda, get info on the u.s., all while making bank. i'd like to see the jia de jia de (faked) testimony that was cobbled together by video editing to convince mainlanders he's the victim of racism who fought back and 'won', instead of reality, which is that even our shitty politicians were able to show what he really is...

"TikTok’s Next Big Ban Showdown Is in Montana

Chinese-owned app is lobbying against bill to ban TikTok for all Montanans, in effort to avoid domino effect"

"TikTok’s efforts in Montana showcase a strategy it is rolling out nationwide as it fights to continue operating in the U.S. in the face of mounting criticism.

Some officials and lawmakers in Washington have proposed banning the service or forcing its sale to a U.S. company because, they say, the Chinese government could order TikTok’s Beijing-based parent company, ByteDance Ltd., to use the app to spy or distribute propaganda. House Republicans and Democrats last month hammered TikTok’s chief executive with questions at a hearing that illustrated the broad antipathy toward the company on Capitol Hill.

TikTok says that its platform carries a range of views and that it would refuse to comply with a Chinese-government request for the data of its users. It has proposed a $1.5 billion plan to silo its U.S. operations from China.

The company also is trying to tell Americans who might be unfamiliar with the app—which is especially popular with younger people—how important it has been to their fellow citizens.

The showdown in Montana started after most U.S. states enacted limited bans for government-issued devices in the late fall and early winter. Governors typically ordered such bans without legislative input.

Shelley Vance, a Republican freshman in Montana’s state senate, proposed going a step further, introducing in February a bill to prohibit TikTok from being downloaded on devices in Montana.

Her legislation cited concerns that TikTok could share user data with the Chinese government. “You’re not the user. You’re being used,” Ms. Vance said at last week’s legislative committee hearing about the bill. Her legislation, she added, “puts an end to China’s surveillance operations in Montana.”

Ms. Vance said her bill was inspired by concerns about national security and the privacy of individuals and companies in Montana."

don't know if anybody followed the news about macron (france's president) and his love fest in china, followed by the backlash everywhere else, but this article gives you an idea about how he's further alienated both his own country and europe in general... he will be gone from "leadership" soon, probably take a bunch of chinese money to help them out, then... who knows:

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/11/world/europe/macron-china-allies.html

The French have always pissed me off. When did they add blue and red to their flag?
Moving right along, Montana made international news this week: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-65281881

finally, the u.s. and others are doing something about the chinese "police stations" that are placed around the world, in order to coerce those with connections to china to spy, etc.... if someone has family in china, they can and will be a target of the ccp's operation aimed at stealing whatever they can from other countries, plus manipulating those with ties to china to do their bidding.

the ccp doing it's best to harass 'foreigners' trying to do business there, curious to see if greenie has heard about anything like this at his old firm: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/12/business/china-anti-espionage-law.html

don't know that anybody pays attention to this thread anymore, so i kinda quit posting, but i gotta say that the ccp has done a great job of erasing tiananmen square from the minds of the chinese people in general. i talk weekly to some younger people from or in china, and only one, who is almost 40 y.o. and has lived in hong kong, has any idea that the tianamen square massacre even occurred. 36 y.o. and down have no clue, until they use their vpn's and simply search out june 4, 1989 using google. none of them seem the slightest bit surprised, though, that they were never taught about tank man (always the image they mention). i don't know... i guess it is easy to just give up. a lesson for us all, i guess, and that means you.

Just what is the difference between the CCP press and CBS, ABC, NBC, MSDNC, CNN, and the rest? :? And, no, please don't stop posting about China. Your are one of the only sources of news on the topic.
