Vim's 2023 Montana High School Football Recruiting List

I may be biased (since I call the Gallatin and Bozeman games) but keep an eye on Bozeman High Luke Smith... Is a beast on the defensive side of the ball, and very good hands as a TE. He should have a really big year, as Hawks lost a lot on the receiving side, and Casagranda will rely on Smith to pick up the slack. He could easily move up to the "Partial" list... Also look for Asher Feddes to have a HUGE year as well... Covered two Belgrade games last year, and he was the best LB I saw on any team (Every East team, and two West teams)... He may be a little small, but he is a tackling machine!! I would have him in the "Safe Investments" category..

Sac—do you believe these two young people are likely to join the budding Gelatin County Diaspora upon graduation?

The recruiting thread says there are 6 other OL offers out.

Offered... About time!

WR- Cameron Gurnsey 6' 1" 180 (Butte HS) Butte, MT (T 6/24/22)

I could be wrong, but I assume this is a roster spot for now because of the wording. It might become a scholarship further along in the recruiting cycle. Same with Buehler's. These are a couple of legacy Griz so hope this works out for both of them.

So I don't see Jaxon Tucker on this list anywhere. Please point out if I missed it, or is he even more of a project?

I see the Cats offered Clay Oven this morning. It says “offer” and not “scholarship”. Hopefully that gives the Griz a leg up.

Will be interesting to see if Jaxon ends up playing football. Sounds like he just had a second shoulder surgery.

I agree, Paytonlives.

Guernsey was a state leading WR as a JR (I mentioned him on here when he was a. Middle schooler... Ha).

Guernsey averaged 107.4 Class AA receiving yards per game, over 11 games. He missed 1 game.

Butte SR WR teammate Dylan Snyder averaged 63.4 Class AA receiving yards per game, over 12 games (44 yards per game less than Guernsey), and Snyder accepted an offer from the cats.

On a minor side note, Butte QB Jace Stenson attended the Marty Morningwig (Dave Dickinson) QB camp that was in Missoula. So maybe Guernsey will benefit from that?

Blue Chipper lineman Zach Tierney (a wrestling state contender at Heavyweight, but missed the entire wrestling season due to football off-season surgery) is doing well playing Legion Baseball.

Here is a pic of Tierney after he smoked a 2 run RBI double to left center in the Semifinals of the Southwest A District tourney, for his #1 seed Butte Miners:

This is missing Helena High linemen Dylan Christman (6' 5" • 250 lbs). He's in the mix, no question.

Adam Jones should be ranked higher. He was very impressive this year.

Jace Stenson is also an impressive athlete for Butte. Maybe not a QB, but he's talented.

Good eye!

I agree on all 3.

Plus Stenson was just coached at camp by Morningwig and some Legend of the Fall guy... 😎

Vim, what’s the story on Jacob Anderson and Zach Tierney. Any inside info on if they may lean this way or that way?

Well since I am the resident Butte guru... I would think I might know more than vim certainly on Butte athletes.

Stenson has an offer, at QB, from Montana Western.
