Good question (although in my day it was CMR). I graduated with Mike Murphy and Justin Hartman and there were several other good athletes the years I was there and previous years. It just seems there isn't as many D-1 athletes here as there used to be. Glad the Griz have Bloemendaal and Ambeuhl.

Yes, CMR. I just meant Great Falls in general....

Yep, Great Falls schools in general were top dogs in my time (late 80's).

Butte lost to CMR in 86 State Champ (CMR 3-Peat)
Butte lost to Capital in 87 State Champ
Biutte lost to GF High in 88 Semi-Final (GF won State)

GF Public was also a powerhouse in the early seventies. I still have silver paint in my hair from a game or two against them.

Jake Olson TE Butte High

Great additions, grizfan1984. You are SPOT ON.

TE/DE Olson was the 1st kid that popped into my mind. (And not just because he goes to my school) 6'7" 215 lbs, Athletic (starting, active Center in BB). He reminds me of the talented RS-SO Colton Curry, only Josh Olson isn't quite as pencil thin as Colton was in HS. Glad to see on the Griz roster it says Curry is finally up to 220. I see a lot of potential in Olson. BB is a possibility as well, his Dad Bob played BB for the Griz.

2020 AA State Semi-Final game hail marry TD catch just before halftime, versus defending state champions, Billings West Golden Bears:

Jack Waddell from Laurel is being highly recruited by both schools. His family are big bobcat fans. But do have some Griz fans mixed in. Would be cool to have a kid from laurel on the Griz.

I graduated in ‘80 and just remember Great Falls schools (particularly CMR) dominating in EVERYTHING. Now they can’t even get a single player in the top 20-25 in the state?

Watching the Bears 85 Superbowl Shuffle on NBC right now.

Reminds me of this 86 Bulldog Shuffle:

Kenneth Eiden IV

Saw him live standing out in the 2019 State Championship in Butte, getting after the Montana Gatorade Player of the Year in Butte QB Tommy Mellott for sacks and tackles for loss. Also he stood-out on the Bozeman offense, scoring a couple BIG receiving TDs (20 and 26 yards out).

This iis a can't miss star in college.

Would be stunned if he stayed in-state. Unless he has a down senior year.

He has been to most of the Big 10 schools and several Pac-12 schools

No offers though, and he might be too small for P5 schools. Pretty tough for a P5 school to offer an undersized DE from MT that's not a freak athlete.

Sure hope he goes out of state though. Can't see how he isn't a Bobcat if he stays in state.

Speaking of a bonafide star recruit that will be hard to keep in state is Kicker Casey Kauntzman.

I know it's light years away, but I would be flabbergasted if this MT HS class of 2022 recruit doesn't end up in the NFL.

SOPH year:

AA 1st Team All State

Montana Prep Football "AA Kicker of the Year"

64 of 70 PAT (91%)
6/8 FG (75%) Long 43

This bright kid (Mother a Dr.) has 2 more years in HS of practicing his butt off (he even has a setup in his back yard).
