Went to the online missoulian this am and found the following sports stories:

1st Scoreboard: Girls high school basketball boxscores
2nd Full Court Press: Thursday's high school highlights
3rd Charlo denies Arlee Scarlets in bid for Western 14-C
4th High school roundup: Missoula Big Sky boys earned first league win
5th Harald Frey delivers in crunch time as Montana State overcomes Eastern Washington
6th High school box scores
7th Jamie Pickens reaches 1,000 points, leads Helena girls basketball over Missoula Hellgate
8th Montana Grizzlies score in triple digits to dominate Idaho

The Bozo Comical doesn't have a story on the Griz win.

Shouldnt we get better billing than the cats in our local paper??

Because of being short staffed, reporters post their own stories most often. I can almost guarantee the Griz game story being "buried" has nothing to do with anything other than the reporter was good at his job, finished his story first and the other stories were posted after, the most recently posted story appearing on top. You'd think there would be someone who would re-order in terms of newsworthiness, but that's likely not the case.

Three of the five main pieces of content this morning on Skyline Sports are on Montana basketball: http://skylinesportsmt.com/

Also, I will continue to remind folks - Lee Enterprises owns the Missoulian, Billings Gazette, Helena IR and Montana Standard in Butte, hence the content sharing. The Bozeman Chronicle is owned by Camping World, has no other Montana papers so has no content sharing. Hence why the Chronicle only ever runs Bobcat content while the Missoulian and Gazette have both. Gazette reporter Greg Rachac is in Bozeman and Kyle Hansen is in Missoula, so both universities will have coverage every time they have a game whereas in Bozeman, you will only get the Bobcats.

Lee Enterprises is a socialist propaganda bulletin
> you will read what you're told to read and nothing else....
> If you want to be a good socialist > learn to be a better bitter and unhappy butt-hurt victim.

Just to add to what Colter wrote, the sports editor for all Montana Lee enterprise papers lives in Belgrade and was a former beat reporter for the Cats. I don’t think he is necessarily biased for the Cats but he goes with what he sees and is familiar with and that is MSU which means we get a lot more Cat coverage (especially on-line) than Griz coverage.

Honestly, for the best quality sports reporting (aside from skyline), check out 406mtsports.com. They have sections for high school, college, and other narratives that don't fall into either area. Living outside of Montana now, it's the first place I check for information about Montana sports.

In the print version, for those of who still enjoy an actual print paper, the Griz Victory is the headline and top story in Sports.

406mtsports.com is the Missoulian. And the Gazette. It's Lee Enterprises. It's just a central hosting area.

Tribune is worse. Joined at the hip to USA Today. Left wing outhouse fodder. Griz? Cats? Who dat? At that, they want $38/month.

Local sports is at least 24 hours delayed and often 48 hours. Most of the paper is USA Today with a few local stories thrown in. The only reason I still get the online version is to check the obituaries to see if I’ve died yet.

Tribune is completely screwed because the newspaper is now designed at a regional design centered owned by McClatchy, so they have a deadline at 7 or 8 p.m. No game is over by that time, so they literally have no ability to get the scores into the paper for the next day.

This is more about the Tribune, so avoid this if you don't care about that paper.

Thanks Colter, I knew the Tribune was sold in the last year or two, but didn't know to whom. About this time last year, the monthly rate went up 25%(for the second year in a row). The physical paper had literally nothing worth reading, very little local content, sports(you nailed it)was rare to non-existent, and a day or two late at that. I went to cancel my subscription, but was met with a locked door, and a note explaining customer service hours were M-F 9a-12p. I came back the next day, and found the first floor(two story building)completely empty, lights out, no furniture. Everything was on the second floor. I counted 12 people or active offices/desks, including the customer service rep I was talking with. Also, empty offices/desks. I asked who the genius was who hiked the monthly rates, was told it was made by the "new owners." I found out from a carrier(who had a large route)that 300 subscriptions were canceled on that route alone. That carrier is now a former carrier, voluntarily. After about 8 months, and many form letters to former readers, trying to get them back, I tried them again. Got my new rate hike today, and tried to call in to customer service, again. There was an estimated waiting time of 14 minutes. Looks like they are circling the bowl.

When newspapers are owned in by a corporation who owns hundreds or even thousands of other publications, the readers and subscribers in Montana could not be lower on the totem poll...

Local newspapers are steadily going extinct ... whatever their political leanings.

Aside from sad coverage, our local rag is having trouble even getting the thing delivered. My wife (I only read the damn thing when she points out something worthwhile) has had to call every day for the past five days to tell them the delivery guy/gal missed us. Before that, she was calling like every other day.

Thanks Colter, that explains a lot.
