Is leaving the Gonzaga program and moving back to Montana....to teach. Barta will be foregoing her final year of eligibility.

I know you are being greedy but this was my first thought too. Crazy to give up a free year of school and an opportunity to get a masters degree. She must be really tired of basketball.

She has zero intentions of playing collegiate basketball in her future.

The Missoulian says she is giving up her last year at Gonzaga to go to the WBA.

Currently she has no intentions of playing basketball at all. She is ready to move on and begin teaching.

She has no intentions of playing pro ball next year, she does in fact have intentions of playing college ball next year. Look for her to end up at a PAC12 school, likely the one that has the coach who first recruited her to Gonzaga. However as other schools catch wind she a potential addition to their program for one year, she will get a ton of interest.

It has been known at Gonzaga for awhile and even by other coaches in the State of Montana that Jill and the current head coach didn't really "fit" with each other at Gonzaga. This is where the Grad transfer rule is great, you can get your degree, give your all to a school... then choose what you want to do with your final year of eligibility as you see fit. Now she can have fun again and enjoy the sport as she see's fit.

A classy way to leave a school in my opinion, declare for the draft (not hiring an agent) then switch it up and TRANSFER to another school without the perception of letting people down.

This was a cool "Barta" moment in high school, not sure if the clock had already gone to zeros but Fairfield came back and got the victory and the place was rocking.

Wouldn't she have to sit one year due to NCAA transfer rules? Regardless of which school she does, indeed, if so, transfer to.

No. Because she earned her degree and has a year of eligibility left. NCAA rules.

If they had thirty teams in the WNBA I can see it. But with only twelve it's going to be rough. She's good, I don't doubt that, but is she that good? I wish her luck. Hope she has fun playing and doing whatever; whether here or in Europe, or even maybe even Australia.

I think this is more about wanting College ball to be done. Signing with an agent now means no more "pressure" from folks to come back, go to this school, come here, etc. Once you sign there is no going back to college hoops. While she very much has the skill set to be a pro basketball player whether over seas or in the WBNA, she might just be as happy to move on in life and start a job teaching after graduation. If the fire and desire is still there to get better and make money at it (basketball), go all in.

I think she surprised those closest to her by signing with an agent.
