1- Under the college transfer policy, when a student-athlete informs a school that he wishes to transfer, that institution has two business days to enter that athlete's name into a national transfer portal. Once the student-athlete's name is in the database, other coaches from any school can contact that individual.
2- Players can compete right away if the school they’re leaving has given a written release.
3- Schools are now allowed to cancel the scholarships of players at the end of the semester in which they expressed their intent to transfer.
4- The transfer rules still require players to sit out for a full academic year before they can begin playing, but athletes can file for waivers on the basis of any number of possible exceptions, as several Ole Miss players successfully did last offseason in the wake of the school’s NCAA sanctions.
5- Players who have graduated from their original school but still have eligibility are allowed to play immediately.
6- Football players who go from an FBS team to an FCS team (or from FCS to FCS teams that don’t offer scholarships) don’t have to sit a season.
7- Players who haven’t participated in an NCAA sport over the last two years can transfer and play immediately.
