Three new Lady Griz - basketball

You never know how it's going to end up with a player but you know where it all begins--with excellent recruiting. And this seems to be a good haul of talent. Me like too.

citay: Agree 100% with you. Everything in coach Holsinger's 5-year rebuilding program looks very promising at this point. I particularly respect those coaches who work to build their program with primarily high school talent. It may not always work out, but I respect the principle of matching student-athletes with an educational institution because they'll get a solid 4-5 year educational experience. Notable about South Dakota State (since they edged the GrizWBB this week) was the 5 (five) upper class transfers that gave the Bison an instant competitive boost.

So... I'm hoping that those schools (Montana in particular) that recruit high school athletes will be able to solidify their programs within two years while other schools remain on the hunt for transfers. This year's Griz men's team also features high school student-athletes, and coach DeCuire referred to it specifically in the signing story at goGriz today. Quote from coach DeCuire: "I feel great about the class," DeCuire said. "Recruiting has changed and I think there are a lot of programs that spend so much time on the transfer that they aren't doing their work as early as they used to on the high school kids and I think that led to us having the ability to bring in the class we are bringing in."

Also: It's notable that the Montana volleyball team -- though they've had major contributions from 3 transfers over the past three seasons -- has built a solid foundation under coach Allison Lawrence. Her work to rebuild a team that was literally at ground zero, has been remarkable. Part of Lawrence's success is recruiting players from Texas (in particular) and other regions not normally recruited (South Carolina...? ;) ) Montana softball coach Melanie Meuchel has also primarily recruited high school athletes over the past two seasons. Please take a quick look at the VB and SB signees. I truly like the way these coaches are building their programs. (links below). Go Griz, GrizMBB, GrizVB & GrizSB.
