FWIW,

Idaho might have the most sought after transfer of Big Sky Conference types. Blakney is going to get a ton of interest, including Montana. Idaho who had one win all year is seeing an exodus of players, and some of it related to its putridness but also is an effort by the staff to revamp and improve the roster.

Idaho up to 6 with 2 today:
Ja-Vary Christmas and now Damen Thacker. Things are getting ugly in Moscow.

Per Twitter, Blakney has confirmed that both Montana and Montana St (others as well) have contacted him

No question we need immediate help in the post. We had no rim protection at all this year.

But when it comes to transfers, I think they fall into the category of "back-up quarterback syndrome," where at the first sign of trouble everybody clamors for the back-up. Transfers are not always the answer, as we've learned this year.

I prefer to build with high school kids, as Eastern has done. We have had two strong back-to-back recruiting years, including two bona-fide bigs, Owens and Bannan. Mack Anderson is improving. I hope all three can gain muscle and bulk in the off-season.

And remember, it takes time for bigs to develop.

One other idea: Bring Sayeed Pridgett back this summer to help with the camps. Have him spend any spare time teaching our bigs his low post moves. He was almost unstoppable on the low block last year even at 6'5".

MSU’s Caleb Bellach of Manhattan just put his name in the portal. Not surprising, I never really thought he was D1 caliber. Cats also had 2 seniors, Kirby and Mohamed announce they’re not returning but I don’t believe they’re transferring. I think they’re just hanging it up.

I would disagree on Bannan and Owens. Watching them get manhandled repeatedly by EWU’s (actual) big man, I don’t think they’ll ever reach a point where they can effectively defend a guy like that. They are 4’s playing the 5 position...I’d rather have them at 4 and a true big man at 5.

How many years have we said about Anderson that he “just needs to bulk up”? When will some of us understand that some frames/bodies just don’t get weight put on easy. Which is fine. Anderson does his job. But we need a bigger, beefier guy to defend the Groves, Bellos, and Blakneys of the world. It’s a game of matchups, and TDC knows that better than anyone. Just look at how he used Egun to take Jones of Weber completely out of his element.

I think bringing in someone like Blakney is a must.

MSU’s Mike Hood in the portal via Verbal commits. That’s actually kind of a big loss for the cats. He really emerged this year for them.

Interesting. I have to think the writing was on the wall there. He played in just one game in the conference tournament and not much towards the end of the season. The last time he played more that 20 minutes was the Idaho loss at the end of February. He went from 6th man to 10th man by the end of the season.

What is interesting, is that Cameron Satterwhite just now hit the portal. Even though he had long since left the team, he is just now available. Looking for this 4th team in 4 years.

Who?

Is this the same guy who "earned" a starting position over Vazquez, Egun, Beasley?

He'll probably end up at Idaho next year!

What is interesting, is that if you wanted you could recruit a new team or starting lineups from a school.

Begs of number of questions or thoughts:
Is there a bulk rate? Buy 4 get the 5th scholarship free?
Your team was clearly better than mine, I'll take all of you.

Teams with 5 or more players in the portal:
Albany (7)
College of Charleston (5)
Columbia (6)
Farleigh Dickinson (5)
George Washington (6)
Green Bay (9)
Idaho (6)
Indiana State (6)
Jacksonville (9)
Maine (5)
North Carolina Central (5)
Penn State (7)
Portland (7)
Samford (6)
Tennessee State (5)
University of Illinois-Chicago (5)
University of North Carolina - Wilmington (5)
University of Tennessee Martin (13)
Valparaiso (6)
Western Michigan (6)

Looks like UT-Martin will be getting a completely new team by default!

Couple of big names into the portal this morning. UNC’s Sam Masten and NAU’s Luke Avdalovic both entered the portal this morning.

There are 550 plus players in the portal, representing at least 10% of the total roster space of all D1 programs.

Crazy.

I’m just curious to see if any of the California dudes “callithowiseeit” claimed would leave actually end up leaving.

I don't know. I think there are a couple that could, considering the situation I'd understand. Less to do with Travis and more to do with Covid and being isolated from everyone for six months. Lots of chatter but I don't know enough to state one way or the other as to who is leaving.

For me if there were five scholarships available for next year, that wouldn't surprise me. Heck UAB had 5 guys put their name into the portal today. Those end of year meetings are happening and players are getting an analysis of where they'll stand with the program next year.
