Lady Griz Recruit for the 2022-23 season

Guard Mya Hansen verbally committed to play for the Lady Griz starting 2022-23 season. Verbally commited at age 15. I guess we can take bets on whether 2 years from now she will back out of her verbal commitment or actually play for the Lady Griz.

What I've heard (haven't seen her play) is that she's a bonafide blue-chipper. Congrats Mya Hansen!

Not unique to this situation but it seems crazy to commit so young. Crazy for the school and for the player. Things change, degree aspirations change, coaches change, skills change. That said, congrats to her. I've heard she is a special player.

She was at the GSA Spring BBQ in Billings and her dad was my b-ball coach back in the day. I could see her family eventually moving near Missoula and her dad coaching again. Mya is the real deal. Huge loss for Laurel as they got sick of some of the politics. She had no desire to go anywhere but Missoula so pretty cool to commit that early. Wishing her nothing but the best.

I'd like to know the percentage of all athletes that sign at age 15 that actually honor their commitment. Brock Osweiler signed to play b-ball at Gonzaga at a similar young age, and that never happened. I don't know why this is even allowed. I've said it before but coaches should leave 15 year olds alone. I don't blame Shannon or any other coach for "playing by the rules". I just think the rules should be changed.

Nobody signs at age 15 unless she or he is a senior in high school. All she did was give a verbal commitment as did Osweiler. Nothing is binding. Rollie Worster is another example of a verbal commitment that changed his mind.
