The doctor’s initial diagnosis at the hospital was a fracture that could heal on its own. But things seemed off. Everyone kept telling Britt his face looked lopsided. He didn’t notice the changes as they slowly morphed right in front of his eyes, becoming his new normal.

A return trip to the doctor a month later led to an X-Ray that showed his face wasn’t healing properly because the bones had been shattered. Doctors had to re-break 17 bones in Britt’s face to perform surgery. They put three metal plates in the right side of his face and placed an implant in between those plates by his cheekbone.

That first doctor should have been sued. What a fucking quack.

My thoughts from the article are as follows (for what they are worth):

1) What the hell were they doing running any plays without a helmet on? Even Padless practices should include a helmet. Most programs and states require them for all on field football activities.

2) What kind of doctor doesn’t refer this to the proper specialist for evaluation? Definite malpractice on the part of this physician. Even if he expected it to heal on its own there should have been routine follow-up to ensure that was the case. Not having bystanders point out a very apparent physical alteration.

3) This kid is already Montana tough and a great fit with out program and mentality. Impressive drive to get back and do what he loves. I think he will be successful, just as a few other griz qb’s were when faced with life changing adversity.

Just went and re-read this article again. Frank, I feel you did a heck of a job on this article. Felt the emotion, the whole way through.
